How do I adjust the timing???

Hi guys, I had the timing belt changed along with my engine last month, and the timing is off, resulting in poor performance, how do I adjust the timing to bring it up to normal levels, and what are the correct settings??

Thanks for any help,

Brian

this is something im keen to find out aswell.

to follow on to that, does the timming need to be adjusted for the mods you have done to the car and soforth?

Ignition or valve timing ?

Ignition is easy (RTFM). 15 deg BTDC using a timing light while moving the CAS.

Valve timing is a little more involved.

Check the Tech Sec over to your left and look at the online manual.

Car Idles fine (about 750-800rpm) but is slow to rev up and is under performing, and after talking to some of the other guys, I reckon that it has something to do with the new timing belt, and that perhaps the timing has been thrown off as a result. I am looking for timing settings for a stock auto engine to give to my mechanic, who despite being a very good mechanic, has never done the timing on a Z before (they're kinda rare over here).

Thanks for any help

Brian.

Cambelt timing is just a counting game - once you've taken off enough bits to see it.

Check in the online manual, or get a copy of the CD version and print some pages out for him.

What I don't understand is how so many garages seems to put the belts back on wrong! When I've changed mine in the past, it takes 5 seconds to make sure all the cam pulleys, and the crank pulley are in the correct position before tightening the belt. There are indentations in the pulleys, which should match up with the markings on the metal plates behind them!!

Hmmm...garage staff imcompetance will never cease to amaze me! (But then, its probably the fault of the 17yr old grease monkey thats there on job training coz he failed EVERY GCSE @ school)
