I have spotted this and it looks really nice indeed. The thing is though, my question is, do I bother buying a zed for this amount? Has anyone else paid around this price for a zed and enjoyed some relatively trouble free motoring?

Cheers! I know every car is an individual case but just some general stories from anyone paying about that for a zed would be really helpful. Thanks a lot.

by the description it sounds like a non-turbo. It is, as you said very difficult to say without looking the car over. I will say that my best zed was an NA and it cost me £500. Price is no indication of value :)

My mistake, its actually a TT I'd want. I have read quite a few reviews on the zed and everyone just says perfect car buy one, totally reliable etc etc. I know every car is individual and they can't all be tarred with the same brush, I'm just wondering how much I can expect a car of that nature for that price to last.

Mine was 5k and the only problem I've had so far is trying to get this permanent grin off my face :D

i just paid short of 5k for a tt good condition, few minor mods,55000 miles, import and a clutch problem but i knew that before i bought it a few other minor probs but i tend to see problems where there are none.Great car!!keep lookin n good huntin :hyper:

I think I just have so much to learn and quickly too. I hear reviews of auto being much better but I want manual. I just want a good solid jap turbo and these are the only thing that float my boat in a major way!! I just want what every other potential owner wants, something solid. My pet hate with cars is anything that is unreliable, cutting out etc makes me so annoyed!!

Hello mate,

I know you say you want manual but as you've said autos are great this is the one you want ;)

Tis a very nice looking motor that. I am seriously baffled as people keep saying that unless I spend 6k minimum, I am going to end up with someone elses nightmare. Nothing personal to anyone of course, I don't want my first zed experience to be a bad one but I also don't want to buy a lesser car and always wish I'd done the zed thing.

Thanks mate (if only it was a manual I hear you say :D ), its not the case as long as you get someone who knows there stuff to look at it, as with all cars anything can go wrong, so buy one thats been well looked after and has history to prove. The only prob i've had is a pinhole in a rubber tube but they are 15 years old so thats just general maintenance. Yes some can be a nightmare as youve probably read on here but if you get a gooden then it wont be any different to any other car.

Good luck.

Ant

that yellow Na is quite nice. Very sensible positioning of the front number plate.

I've been and seen this motor, it's on Hayling Island, nr Portsmouth. Got to be honest, I was initially smitten, with the colour and the ride but when I was left alone with it for a few mins while the dealer went and paid for some get there juice, I noticed quite a few worn bits inside and out.

Inside:

Gear knob, gear stick gaiter, steering wheel, drivers seat and carpet on drivers footwell were all very worn. Certainly more than my VW Corrado that's done 152k.

Tears on the rear quarter panels, stained back seats.

Outside:

As well as the noted scrapes, the door mirrors are really faded & scratched.

Only a single exhaust? (drivers side)

It was very clean in the engine bay but that was because he'd just steam cleaned it. I arrived 20 mins earlier than I said I'd be.

The dealer offered to through in a service (not includeing belts) and do a deal for the body work. £200 on top of the asking price.

I decided there are plenty of better offers out there so walked away. But then I don't know Z's that well yet. Maybe I've missed out, Only giving my 2p worth.

Cheers mate, that's very helpful. I suppose you were lucky that the signs were visible, would have been worse had you bought it and ended up limping home on safety boost. I'm majorly confused, I am straying towards buying an S14 which would be really nice but not a zed. I suppose even that is a risk, a bad S14 could be more expensive to maintain than a half decent zed. You all know what it's like, you get so much advice from all corners and in the end, you don't know who you are and what you want anymore. I just keep hearing that the only reason someone would sell a zed for 4k and less is because it's a problem they can't afford to keep throwing money at and never winning the battle. I also got offered 2k for my car by someone that told me if I could get a good zed for 4k then my car is only worth 2k. I need to be realistic here BUT the Z32 is such a gorgeous car and what i call my realistic dream car.

I don't suppose the guy who lives in kendal with the yellow zed is a known member around here? My girlfriend lives quite close and I often drool as I drive past where the zed is!! If he is around, would be great to meet up and have a chat.

From what I've seen the average price for a 90/91/ Z is between £3k & £4k. This is the amount I'm looking to spend, but I'm in no rush, There are plenty of Z's about at the moment, and I'm sorry to say it, prices are coming down, so finding a v. good example should not be hard.

ATTN Mods, maybe it would be an idea to have a Pre-viewing sticky. you know the sort of thing, were existing members on the forum can offer to view a Z advertised locally to them to prevent some one travelling a great distance only to find a lemon. There would have to be some ground rules and no come back on the viewer of course.

Try this for size:

Intended as a friendly way for 300ZX owners to pass a quick opinion on whether a Zed is worth a long drive to save a prospective buyer driving hours, only to find it 's a rough car after all.

Suggested terms as below......

'Service voluntarily offered purely as a means to prevent prospective 300ZX buyers travelling miles to view a 300ZX only to find it may not have been worth the journey.

Personal opinions only are provided, which are in no way binding on the person providing them. There can be no recourse on the person kind enough to provide an opinion if anything is missed or over-looked. The intent is to provide an overall opinion as to whether the car is worth travelling to view only, not an opinion on whether the car is worth buying, or is free from defects etc. It is for the buyer to assess for himself whether to travel to view the car, purchase the car, or take professional advice before buying any vehicle.

If a person kindly offering this service is not available to carry out a pre-view, for whatever reason, there can be no recourse or complaint from the person considering buying a vehicle. If a prospective buyer needs a quicker pre-view than can be offered, they are of course free to travel themselves..

No-one is in any way obliged to provide a pre-view, and reserves the right to refuse at any time, for any reason.'

If you are willing to take part please add a brief post detailing the area you are willing to cover. Any problems and people are of course free to withdraw from this. See how it goes.......

How does that sound?___

Cheers Del, maybe we could give each other a shout on anything we spot in each others areas. I am in the North east, if you spot anything that catches your eye in my area, you could give me a shout maybe and obviously I'll do the same for you.

No probs Si. Where about's in Geordie land are you, I used to live not too far away, Norton in Stockton-on-Tees.

Forget the Boro vs Toon thing mind you

I'm in Newcastle mate, I'm too much into cars to waste time on football and dissing people who lives the other side of the Tyne mate so no boro vs geordies battles here!! :-)

I have found that there will always be someone who will be more than happy to go and check a car if you catch the right person and they are free and available to go look. I would personally ask the person to go and view the car as though they were buying it for themselves. I'm not wholly interested in flecks of paint missing here and there etc, I am much more interested in whether the engine is clean and not smoking or making bad noises and that the turbos have a chance of being strong too. My biggest fear is to buy one and then a week later it needs two new turbos. I would seriously cry and for a long time too!!
