Took me most of the day but enjoyed doing it, the gearbox bolts are one cnut to remove especially, the one mounting the battery earth!

On removing and inspecting the engines turbos i've found around 3-5mm of play in the drivers side turbo shaft  and the passengers is not looking to good for its self either.

I'll be spending the rest of the week stripping the block down ready for a full rebuild, also carrying out other jobs and mods on the car through out the winter

I just need another rear wheel drive car to keep me happy through the winter now! I think a E30 325i BMW will do nicely :)

What was that red thing we had fun with on saturday Ferrari or lotus and what type ?

Hope all goes well with the engine, tubs don't sound well. Will you replace with recon or stage1 or what ? If you need hand always happy to help (learn more about engine whilst removed) mine will be removed for new tubs soon and would like to know as much as possible.

cheers

It was a lotus esprite mate (not sure how to spell it) I could'nt keep up with it I was only getting 4psi did you carry on with it?

I had 360 bearings and reconditioned about a year ago, they still look new! guess they was'nt man enough. Im looking at an uprated set now with larger comp wheels, or may be t28's, depending on the cash flow I guess

I've got the following mods and jobs to fit and do

Remove all hicas and fit an eliminator bar

Remove all air con

Replace all fuel lines and fuel tank straps

Forged pistons

Lightened front pully

Fidanza lightened fly wheel

New tappets, oil pump, o2 sensors, fuel filter repair harness, pcv valve set, ignition coil harness repair, knock sensor harness, 60k service bit.

Rebore, crank grind and balence

Mild port polish

Make loads of engine bay bling eg, polished fan shroud, power steering reservoir, bonnet stay, fuse box cover, head light shrouds, howe rad bracket, hard pipe kit

should keep me busy over the winter, will keep you posted

No point in fitting larger comp wheels in stock turbos - They'll still be just as in-efficient at higher boost and you'll simply end up with more lag ;) Problem is in the high pressure side of the turbo, the area of the outlet is too small so the air hits sonic speed, try to increase the flow from here and you'll simply increase pressure and drastically increase heating of the charge, no more flow. Proper T28s are a possibility but there's newer, better turbos out there these days ;)

Thanks for your help i'll stay clear of them then  I think i'll have a ring around get some prices and actual specs of variouse turbos, then post them up for you lot to rip to pieces :D

Thanks again

As I headed off to the left there was heavy traffic, so that was the end of that. Good fun whilst it lasted though.

I'm hopefully havin some new tubs around chrissy time, I can't remember what make scott (at red*ine) suggested but they were stage one.

I think this means slightly larger rotors on each side plus 360 bearings.

Apparently good for 18psi so I'm thinking of running at 15 cos got standard pistons, fitting forged with new conrods sounds expensive.

Anyway keep us upto date with progress

cheers
