Hiya, I hav a UK91 Manual TT and find the traction on her to be somewhat dodgy, ive already spun out on a roundabout a low speed (it was wet to be fair), but in general she often starts to come out at the back and feels like she would go at the slightest twitch!

The tyres are faily new (came on the car) but to be fair they are budget ones, which probably doesnt help. Apart from gettin some decent tyres what can you guys recommend to improve the handling??

Oh and the HICAS is enabled.

Cheers,

Disable Hicas, replace the tyres with good ones (made an unbelievable diff on mine) & if you're feeling like your wallet is waaay too heavy... Racelogic Traction control :)

hmm sounds like there is something wrong, i'd get under and check the rear is within tolerence,

if it is, then in the advanced tuning area is a thread with suspension tweaking ideas.

I'd go with decent tyres....

....I had Avons on my ZX when I bought it. They were in pretty good shape but when I replaced them with Goodyear F1s it was like driving a completely different car.

The handling is now spot on - the back end has not let go yet...

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

 Are F1 s better than Conti s ???

Oh yes

I had Contis on my Supra, they were OK but when I replaced them with Michellins the car felt so much better.

I find the F1s even better than Mich Pilot sports - especially as the F1s are about 25% cheaper than Pilots ;)

Evo mag reckoned F1s are the best high performance tyre in the world. Jap Performance fitted them to their long term project Scooby and rated them the best tyre they had used too.

Good enough for me :hyper:

Bridgestones and toyos are meant to be the best tyres for the zed at the mo!

Some of the best sussy mods are meant to be rear strut bar, then followed by uprated anti roll bars!

Just steer into it and ENJOY!!

ahh dont get me wrong i like a bit of slidin action....jus a bit concerning when i ended up facin the oncomin traffic!

Cheers for the ideas people...think i'll go with some tyres & get rid of the HICAS for the mo and see what happens there.

Anyone recommend someone to disable HICAS? Costs? & can it re-enabled easily again if need be?

I have standard wheels (uk) so 225/50/16 (front) & 245/45/16 (rear)...just had a look on the http://www.blackcircles.co.uk site and seems to be very limited on what they offer in the 245/45/16 size....do you know if i could go wider on the back maybe to 255 on a standard wheel?

245 is your limit. If you can find 255 for a 16 inch wheel, the Z wheel is not wide enough for that size tyre and it will end out bulging out making the contact area worse.

There could be a problem with your suspention if it is that bad, but you will be surprised how much a good set of tyres will change the way the car handled.

I had Kuhmo tyres on the rear when I got my car and it would slide and wheel spin with needing very little effort. I changed to Bridgestone SO2 and they gripped better in the wet than the Kuhmo did in the dry.

I will never buy a budget set of tyres again.

Instead of trying blackcircles try, http://www.mytyres.net.

Sounds like what I had. Get rid of them. I had the back end kick out on me rolling at 20mph round a corner on a damp road.

yeah mine went at about 30 on a roundabout on a wet day...almost scared to take it out in the wet!....cheers mate cleared something up for me there....i will look into this sharpish!

LOL the HICAS has NOTHING to do with low speed driving so leave that in place for now. Concentrate your money on making sure the suspension is correct (dampers/bushes/geometry) and getting some decent tyres on there - you wouldn't believe the difference ;)
