I've noticed over the last few days that my clutch pedal has an expanding "dead zone" where there's no resistance at all. When had a drive earlier, almost half of the pedal travel had no resistance. The gears engage and disengage without crunching.

I had a similar thing happen a while back on my old BMW - found it to be a failed slave cylinder. Could it be the slave cylinder on its way out here?

think its normal for there to be no resistance until about halfway down well mine is :x:

when pulling away lift clutch find bite if theres no bite until near the top of the pedal chances are your clutch is warn/wearing out

or drive at 40 in 5th gear apply gas if revs are dying then again could indicate clutch is slipping

i think you can ajust the cluth behind the pedal but i wouldent unless needed to HTH

Thanks for the reply mate :)

Since I got the car, there was about 1/4 of the clutch travel without resistance, the reason I'm worried now is 'cos it seems to have progressed to almost 1/2 the travel.

Sounds like it may be a fault in either the master or slave cyl and there may now be air in there. Try "pumping" the pedal to see if more resistance builds up, if so- air in sys. Master cyl repair kit- approx £15 and complete cyl approx £80 both from nissan. Slave about £45 ish - (I think)

I just fitted a new slave cyl and M/Cyl repair kit last week- I had a similar problem. Eventually you'll probably have difficulty selecting gears.

I've just had a go of pumping the pedal, and resistance does build up again - thanks for that.

Looks like I'll be needing one of those kits then.

I'd try bleeding the clutch first before you spend any money. There's a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder which is mounted on the bell housing under the car and one under the bonnet either on the inner wing mounted at the end of a pipe (approx 10-12mm dia) above the hicas solenoids or on the end of the master cyl.

good luck

Ok, I'll try that sometime this week - cheers for that :)
