different terminology for the same thing really

 

MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor, most of these are hot film type sensors to tell the ecu the mass of air entering the cyls

 

AFM = Air Flow Meter, early meters simply had a flap which moved a variable resistor to tell the ecu the amount of air flowing, the ecu would also need to take a seperate air temp reading to calculate the mass of air
