Does anyone have an idea what the strange black box is that is mounted via metal bracket on the underside of the driver knee panel (trim that goes under the steering column).

It looks aftermarket (due to its strange position and use of "bullet" connectors as opposed to the usual plugs), and is a bit bigger than a pack of playing cards.

It also has a number of wires disappearing up into the dash and into the loom.

Cheers

Rich

Usually that is the contol box for bumper corner locators, a device fitted to the n/s front bumper that can be raised by a switch so the corner of the car can be judged better when parking in tight locations ( down town Tokio!)

Ahh it could be that. There was an aerial type contraption on the front bumper (which has now been replaced).

Might disconnect it and see what happens ... any other suggestions before I disconnect some "important" gismo that will result in me being unable to stop or something?? lol.

Cheers

Rich

Rich, if it fitted by a bracket to the rear of the knee panel under the steering wheel as you have describe it, then it will defo be the bumper aerial.......disconnect away.
