irish plate

could someone please tell me whats going on here.

when i brought my z it came with DIL 6171 as the plate. This was not sold with the car and I agreed that I would nominee the previous owner to the plate.

now a year has passed the dvla have sent me a retention document reminder asking for £25 to keep the plate on retention or £50 for retension and giving a new nominee.

can i presume that the plate is mine as the nominee did not take the oppertunity to take control of the plate?

if this is correct is there anyone here who would want to buy it? having your z not year stamped can only be a good thing!!

Cheers

Martin

When I bought my car it had a cherished number on it. *shudder* H7OMO. Ahhhhhhhh

Anyway the person who I bought it off said that he wanted to keep the plate and would organise it to be changed and for me to have a new one.

5 months later I changed it becuase several attempts at contacting him failed.

I must stress that ANY number plate belongs to the owner of the vehicle. So that plate by law is yours.

Getting a new normal plate for your car will cost you about £125. I phoned the DVLA and asked them. But because I surrendered the cherished plate to the DVLA so they can now sell it again, I got a new normal plate for free.

Because yours is a Irish plate, if you surrender it, it will go the the Irish DVLA and I think that you will have to pay the £125 for a new one. I thought the retention is a plate that is on hold which has not vehicle to go on. Is the retension for the Irish plate or the plate that was orignally on the car?

the plate was on the car but i had my own private plate so i removed the Irish plate and it went onto retention. once this was done i nominated the plate to the previous owner.

if it is mine i have no idea what these plates are worth but i would have thought around £200

hows that sound?

You have to think of your costs. To transfer a plate to another car costs £80 I think, if not more

Then to buy a new plate for your self costs £125.
