Need a bit of advice , recently found that both O2 sensors have been disconnected , car runs sweet , full boost and does,nt miss a beat

Obviously means one or both are shagged or is there another reason this has been done.

If you de-cat a Z then wot happens to the O2 sensors ?

Wot affect will it have on my car as it is ?

And more importantly will i fook anything up running like this

By the way i have,nt tried plugging them back in for fear of buggering something up :slap:

cheers for any advice Allan

Hi Allan - the O2 sensors are screwed in further up the exhaust, right by the turbos so I dont think decatting would have any effect.

I'm surprised the car runs ok with the O2s disconnected, I thought unplugging them was recommended as a "limp-home" if one or both failed? Maybe I'm wrong but I remember reading this.

Cant see why you cant re connect and try the diagnostic to verify that they work. It might run even better then. Has it passed emissions on an MOT yet?

are you definately looking ay the O2 sensors and not the cat heat sensors?

O2 sensors are essentially an emissions control feature and not relevant to power delivery - and in fact are ignored under full load or over certain revs in most cars. (I'm sure Mr Dixon could tell you what the Z does. ;) )

The sensors will be on the engine side of the cats because the cats changes the mix of gases in the exhaust anyway...

Basically, the only effect is to increase emissions somewhat when cruising on part throttle and it won't break anything if you leave them disconnected. (Well, you might melt an icecap or two...)

Suprised it is running sweet though...

i hope i,m right when i said 02 sensors , both plugs have the same red and white and black wires, one is on the side of the engine (o/s) and the other is at the rearof the engine near the battery .

Bit concerned about emisions now , its going for the MOT sat morning

Cheers Allan

Sounds like o2 sensors to me. I'd plug em back in and run the diagnostic and count the flashes. Its a doddle to do. Just use a paper clip to short the connection points in the diagnostic connector just under the dash far rhs. Check the online manual for the right points. You will know immediately if they are working and the engine will run better and you will notice better mpg and part throttle drive.

Or you could just plug em in and let the MOT tester prove em

Yeah i think i,ll have plug em in and do diagnostics , but not till after going to santa pod
