Me again!

Just been to look at a Jap TT '92 auto. The boost gauge doesnt work. Flicks to the left when the ignition is turned on then with the engines running needle moves to the right then remains there. Is it just a loose connection or a big expensive prob. Its th standard gauge. Other wise, apart from some rust in the engine bay where the suspension is bolted and in the boot near the spare wheel. £4875 for the car, YEAH :hyper: or NAY :nono:

Cheers guys

How many you looked at m8?

Bet there's better value and condition one's out there

Shop about first there are plenty for sale at the moment

If the car felt like it was boosting ok then its probably just the gauge sender.

Most zeds will have next to no rust of maintained properly ;)

That price could be a bargain depending on the rest of the car, or a rip-off, need a lot more info to be able to decide really.

Buy mine instead :D

Only if its a UK TT, no mods for £5000!!! CAnt afford the ins otherwise!

Theres not much rust TBH, I'm able to remove and treat it. Only worried bout the boost. Looking at a UK TT on Saturday. Would the diagnostic test show any probs????

No it wouldn't show up a boost problem unfortunately, the ECU diagnostic collates info from a variety of sensors which feed info to the ECU.

You could always take along an aftermarket boost gauge and tee it into the balance bar vacuum lines and run the gauge vac line out through the top of the bonnet, into through window ;) Done that a few times :D

Are there any zed owners nearby you could take along. An owner would know if the boost was low, stock or above. Try putting a shout out in the General forum

Same here m8 (insurance wise)

mines gone rusty since I got it 10 months ago :o

unavoidable m8

if it has caught your eye though take a gauge like pete suggested, only then will you know,

yep get a aftermarket boost gauge witha t piece and 2meters of hose then you will know if theres leaks, upgrades or just sender fooked

The instructions wont be car specific but will tell you how to connect the vac line to it etc.

Easiest place to tap into is on the drivers side of the balance bar (back of the engine, sitting on the top). Pull off the 4mm vacuum line which goes off to the left, you'll need a short piece of 4mm vac line to link the now exposed metal pipe to the open end of the tee piece unless the owners doesnt mind you cutting through the existing lines ;)

...I'm in Ipswich (1990 NA - owned for 5 years etc) If I can be of any help, just let me know. I've a reasonable DIY knowledge of the Z, but never ownned a TT.

Good luck

Jack

You want to be careful about rust around the suspension mounting, it could be more seriuos than it looks and it could be an expensive MOT failure (not to mention potentially unsafe).

Thanks Jack! I might have to take you up on that!

Andy P - The rust isnt that great. Not on the actual mounts, about 100mm away. Majority of it was surface only. I'll have a proper look if I decide to buy it.

Thanks for the help guys

Ya5een - I've got a quote with Hyperformance for £1100 TPFT on a UK TT. £1400 for a Jap

 i was talkin to scottywil the other day and Hyperformance told him thy dont insure imports and thy wont be renewing his policy cos thy dint know it was an import when he first insured it. dnt think hel be too pleased to read this

I used to use Hyperformance, before I realised there were other more competitive companies. One year they basically added about £500 to my premium "because they'd stopped dealing with Norwich Union" and the only alternative was more expensive. I had to wonder, which broker would stop dealing with one of the largest insurance companies in the UK ?
