Need some urgent advice please!

 

Took car to local Nissan dealer today with water pouring into car from heater matrix. Was told that in addition to replacing matrix they'd have to change whole aircon system as the old refigerant used on imports was no longer legal (or even available) due to some EU ruling!

 

They reckoned another £500 on top of the cost of the matrix replacement.

 

Anyone else heard of this sort of thing before I part with the best part of a grand?!!! :shock:

no, you cant regas with R12 anymore, but check the FAQ section, there is a post i put in there of a company that supplies conversion kits for about £25 ;)

 

or you can get alternative "drop in" gasses that are compatible with R12

Brilliant ! Thanks Paul - went back to Nissan armed with info from your post and the quote for the aircon work

has now been revised from £500 to £60. Seemed the guy I spoke to yesterday wasn't aware that a full conversion was no longer necessary.

There's a good reason why a lot of people on here don't use Nissan for any servicing work. I'd be looking for someone else to do the work, including the heater matrix, if I were you

That's exactly what I thought - problem is it's difficult to find anyone else. Any suggestions for a reliable mechanic in the SE?

yep the chaps name is martin. got a workshop in Horsham. i can highly recommend him. just about on the way now(by train :eek: )to collect my Z. very knowledgeable, loves z's (owns one) and very reasonable prices too.

 

only problem is he's moving to lincoln next week, but i believe he's still going to commute down.

Why are you regasing anyway, unless there is a problem with the Air con?

You dont need to touch the aircon to change Matrix! do you?

When my matrix went the air con went too,maybe it was a coinsidence but it did go, i also need mine sorted.
