Hi all,

I remember that a little while back someone posted on this forum that if the steering wheel is not on straight that it affects the HICAS. Sounds logical to me since the HICAS gets it's input from two rings on the steering column.

My steering wheel is not on straight (not off by much but still ...) and I'd like to put it straight. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for this (location of screws, nuts & bolts, clips and other things annoying)?

Appreciate your help!

Incedentally, was speaking to Luke at the ZCentre a few weeks ago about replacing the steering wheel and he told me that if you put any other wheel on then you lose the HICAS input mechanism (effectively turning your HICAS system off). However, if you manage to find a Skyline boss then the problem is solved ... Not sure if this is interesting to anyone but just thought I'd mention it.

Cheers!

Danny

There are bosses made that will keep the hicas.

Take the middle section of steering wheel out, it is just held on by the back with a rubber lip.

The you will see the centre of the steering, loosen that and pull steering wheel ever so slightly out and turn until you feel it click over to next rachet, that shoudl work i still cant get it to work biggrin.gif

alternatively, go and get the tracking done somewhere that you can ask them to straighten the wheel for you before they start...

they will lock the wheel straight, then adjust the track rods to bring them back to true like that.

that wont work craig, if the steering wheel is actually out, then it will not work period. but then again it how would you knwo if the steering wheel is out, if you havent had the tracking done? Ok craig your partly right, cause i say so not because you think so biggrin.gif

wazza, you are wrong, i am right, sorry but it's true.

how does your steering wheel go out in the first place ? especially if you have never taken it off ?

taking it off is the lazy way to do it. and what if it doesnt line up properly still ? how did that happen ? wink.gif

tracking... the true way to get your wheels straight again, including the steering wheel !! :P

Thanks guys!

The reason I know the steering wheel is "off centre" (so to speak) is when going down the road in a straight line the actual steering wheel looks as if it is turning right (i.e., left side is higher than the right). Again, not by much but still ... I think that the previous owner put the wheel off centre by parking against the curb (would explain the rim damage on the original wheels). In any case, I will try taking the steering wheel off and if that doesn't work I'll find a place who can do it for me.

Thanks again though!

Cheers!

Hmmm I have a 'bossed' Momo wheel on my car and my HICAS is ok

Well I assume it is as I dont get the Hicas warning light coming on (I know the HICAS check systems are working too as it was low on fluid and the light would stay on until operating temp was reached, topped up fluid and prob solved)

I must have a Skyline Boss then??

As confused as ever... smile.gif
