Hi guys,

ย

It looks like its my turn to get the curse

Over the last 24 hours the autobox started playing up. I noticed it began to rev higher than usual before changing up, and now it doesnt go any higher than 2nd. :(

Oddly enough when I select '2' it seems to give normal pulling power, but when in 'D' it revs high and doesnt give me much movement (as if the clutch was half pressed in on a manual)

I noticed the oil pressure gauge was running higher than usual when the box was running into difficulties (over 4kg when it's normally 2 or 3)

Ive searched the forum and found a couple of things to check but am not sure about how to check the autobox fluid level?

I've had an ALC2 for a couple of months but that seems to have been behaving itself.

I've not done an autobox self-check yet :slap:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

aaarrrgggh! :(

not had a chance to ring Michael yet mate as been working late shifts but should have time soon.

i tried a diagnostic yesterday (only had a chance to try it once due to time) which didnt work. then i realised that half-way through you're asked to put it in D (with the push-release) with the engine off, then turn the engine ON. surely it wont start when in D or does this not matter? :slap:

After your last thread Mark im hoping its something electrical like the solenoids as like i said the first two gears when used manually (and also in D but i avoid it now!) still work great. thank God I only work 5 mins drive away!

I hope I am wrong, but I think its probably the third gear clutch, this is way too small for these cars and is often first to go. Michael is away for weekend. Good Luck

ok it looks like we have 3 or 4 autoboxes with the exact same symptoms in the last couple of weeks. coincindence? has anyone bought anything from a GB or has some trend gone round that could have started this off???

ย

not saying anything against them (yet) but HKS ALC2? ApexI Super-AFC2? there's been a bit of talk about them over the last month or so.

hey guys. i'm even a bit stuck trying to do an autobox diagnostic :slap:

i try and try the sequence but dont get any flashes and am starting to lose my temper! lol. a couple of stupid questions:

ย

a) it asks you to put the gear in D (while engine off) then turn engine on. naturally it doesnt fire up cos youre in D. is it supposed to just give you the lights and not fire up?

ย

b) i have a turbo timer which naturally keeps the engine running when the part of the sequence tells you to turn engine off. i turn the key and reduce the timer to 0 straight away to kill the engine, but will this upset doing the sequence?

ย

c) oh, and which light flashes at you anyways?

you have it in park and fire it up to start.

ย

then after that you just put the ignition on, not start it. the power light flashes.

thanks for that buddy. RIGHT ive finally accomplished a diagnostic and she's all clear (which could be good news or very very bad news)

think i'll try oil change next.

  • 2 weeks later...

Dave i recently lost 2nd gear on mine and had to fit another box. its all started with a delay changing from 1st to 2nd which got worse untill 2nd gear was lost. the replacement box seams ok for now but did notice bits in the bottom of it, there was no oil so could not tell u its colour. only thing with it is the gearchange thumps in on normal driving. drive her hard or very lightly and gearchanges are smooth. Dont know if its the start of the end for this box also but ill keep and eye on here whilst saving the pennies for a possible baggins one if she goes.
