A day in the life of good old reliable Mercs............

thought id share as so many people keep moaning about the reliability of our cars.

yesterday at work:

brand new A class with less than 100 miles on the clock. failed coil pack only running on 2 cyls

brand new S class 300 miles, failed power steering. hose blown off loosing all fluid.

1997 C240 V6. front pulley damper broken up, pulley cut through front timing case & sump - £2k worth of repairs needed

2 electronic ignition switch failures imobilising the vehicles

as well as the usual servicing & repairs :x:

Thats just a typical Merc..I Know only too well. :(

I'd rate Japanese reliability over German any day - even with our 10 year old+ money pits

Sorry but Kraut engineering just isn't up to it's reputation. Didn't VW have to change their advertising slogan last year (....If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW Golf.....) because they came about 70th in the JD Power survey as they keep breaking down??

And in the same survey 8 of the top 10 are Japanese....

Richard :p

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

paul you know how good my dads c class was, i dont rate them at all, silly reputation they have

Having said that I had a BMW 525 with all the necessary gadgets and I have to say it was an absolute gem of a car, stunning auto box and was still super smooth and reliable with over 100k on the clock.

prefer my z though

yes, but you dont see them day in, day out do you. one of our techs went to work for BMW before returning to us. said they were even more unreliable than our mercs. they also have some serious problems with engine failures etc too!!

aye namely nickle sill coating coming of the cylinder bores and causing oil burning/loss of compression lol and I like bmw's as I have worked loads of em

Ouch that hurts my pocket just thinking about it....
