I'm toying with the idea of moving from my S13 to a 300.

 

I've test driven a 300 and liked it. I plan on test driving another and if I still like the car I'll then get one.

 

The only vehicle I've seen so far that I've liked is the one for sale on this forum:-

I would have prefered lower mileage and it being a few years younger... I did see one on Bonsai (94,55000 miles) but its already got a deposit on it).

 

My main concerns are obviously reliability and costs. So a couple of questions for any Zed experts:-

1) Is there anything obvious I should be asking about that vehicle (that I haven't already)?

2) Is the exhaust very noisy (HKS Super Drager Exhaust

)? I don't mind a nice mild burble, but I don't personally like noisy exhausts you can hear coming from around a corner.

3) Types? How expensive out of interest? (bridgestone potenza on front 235/40/zr18, on the back 265/35/zr18)

4) Now the biggy... This car is up in Manchester... Any of you experts up near there who would be willing to give it a check over with me if I do end up looking at it? (This is a big big if at the moment!)

 

I'm in no rush though, so I may just keep an eye out and see what else pops up. But something like this, maybe newer with lower mileage wuold be ideal!

I'm away next Mon-Fri, so if it does look likely that I'll go up, I'll give you as much warning as possible regarding next Sunday (hopefully before this Monday). I'd obviously have to clear this with the owner as well...

Theres a guy near me with a super drager. It aint loud at idle but when he boots it, it sounds mean as hell. Dont get confused between 'shit big exhaust attached to small engine' loud and 'powerful mofo' loud.

 

Just go look at it. If you think its too loud but its still a nice car, swap the exhaust with someone with a standard exhaust and save your self some money.

Well that is good to hear. I have not problem if the exhaust is not loud when driving normally.

The car itself is much along the lines of what I'm after except:-

a) A little higher mileage than I'd like

b) A little older than I'd like

c) Fabric interior

 

HOWEVER, (a) & (b) mean it's £2-3000 cheaper so that is money put aside for any problems.

And c) gives you even more reason to get a full leather retrim in any colour you want. :dance:

Can I just join in with the loud exhaust debate. Im the owner of the 300zx in question and I was also concerned about the noise level before buying the car.

 

Since owning the car I am able to distinquish between a decent quality loud exhaust (like the HKS) and the cr4p the Nova/Saxo crew have on ther cars. Both exhausts are 'loud' but the HKS exhaust sounds awesome. The Nova/Saxo boy racer things just sound plain loud. The HKS makes the right kind of tones and not just a loud roar.

 

As previously said it gets to the stage where you drive with the window down listening to the tones, especially at night when the roads are quite. It really is a quality piece of kit the HKS super drager and I know why it costs $$$$.

 

Also for a car as individual and unique as the 300zx it definately deserves an individual sound. And in my humble opinion the standard exhaust sounds too 'ordinary' and not deserving of a car like the zed. The 300zx is a super car so I think it should sound like a supercar. The HKS provides the super car sound perfectly.

well depends on how much you have got to spend? 5k should see you for a good zx u k car get it hpi,d ,and with fsh. I have a 1990 import with no history and costing me pounds,at least with a uk car you know how it's been serviced
