FFS! Why don't people just stick to using Exceed...why? Coz the company is a cheapskate MO FO who refuses to pay $400 for an Exceed license! Arggghhhh.

User tries to connect to one of our HP boxes and this little error blings up in a dos window and the connection closes.

 

Your group is currently "mkpasswd". This indicates that the /etc/passwd files should be rebuilt. See the man pages for mkpasswd and mkgroup then, for example, run

mkpasswd -l [-d] > /etc/passwd

mkgroup -l [-d] > /etc/group

Note that the -d switch is necessary for domain users

 

Yes I have read the manual but none the wiser and when I run a bash shell nowt works, not even ls FFS! Pile of $h1te!

 

He can connect to other boxes fine.

 

Doubt if anyone knows anything but if yer do...HELP!!!

'ls' etc don't work when you log in either? It sounds like the box has had a major brainfart and died a horrible death..

 

If you can get in and get stuff to work as other users then just (as root):

 

`vi /etc/password` and look see if his user ID looks 'wrong' compared to the other entries

and `vi /etc/group` and see if there are any wrong entries in there..

 

If you can't get in as anyone then someones probably been playing with the box ;)

what error you get when ls is run out of interest?

 

is your shadow file intact?

try

 

 

mkpasswd -l -d -u username >> /etc/passwd

mkgroup -l -d > /etc/group
