Hi guys,

Could anybody help with this strange problem? Parked the car up on Sunday, she was running fine no problems. Went to it tonight to go for a drive, took two or three attempts to start it, when she did start she was running really rough, as if one or more cylinders down and heavy smoke out one exhaust. Smoke colour was light greyish. Recently fitted new NGK platinum plugs and carried out a full coil pack, injector, PTU, TPS connection and terminal clean. So pretty sure all the connections are all ok.

Recently also removed PCV valves cleaned them and refitted them.

Any ideas of anything else to check out?

Cheers,

Alan......

Did you take it out for a run when it did start,to see if it cleared any?

Yup,

Still went like a bag of spanners, wouldnt tick over, stalling and the smoke was still there.

Strange thing was, after leaving it for half an hour, went to it and it started and ticked over ok. As soon as it was revved, it went all lumpy and started smoking again !!

Alannnnnn

Airflow sensor?

Does it rev above about 2.5-3k? or splutter like fook and tick over like a bag of shite + hesitate on throttle?

Could well be that, or;

Checkef your fuel guage recently lol :P

p.s if its been raining heavily where you are then that helps identify it?

If anything, it hasnt rained for over a week up here !

Unusual for Scotland I know, but it does happen.

Where is the fool gauge Steve O ???

ALAN........

Check all the vacuum hoses from the induction system, for cracks and air leaks

Fool guage? lol

Swap the airflow sensor with a local Zer and see what happens, it really does sound like what happens when they play up. Did you notice the very occasional hesitation when pulling off sometimes before it died?

Generally the biggest problem is them getting wet, they seem to die pretty easy!

Have you got a weather guard under your induction (if youve got an induction?). If tis been sunny for ages and its only just come on seems odd, I guess they can still fail.

If not the Airflow Sensor then it sounds like ignition prob to me, but having said you checked all the usual culprits im not sure mate :S
