I've got a VVVVIIIIBBBRRAATTION! - Pls Help!

I have a very annoying vibration coming from the front end.

It manifests itself at 80 mph but you drive through it at 110 mph.

It is not a violent movement more a shake.

I have fitted new disks and pads (Brembo grooved and Greenstuff),

Replaced the tie arm bushes (uprated nylon bushes),

Spanner checked the front suspension

Swapped the front and rear wheels (JSpec - Same size)

Checked the tyre pressures.

The only thing I havent done is balance the tyres but as they are due to be replaced post Kemble Track Day I'm loathed to do

this.

Anyone got any other ideas - I'm at a loss.

Thanks guyz - hope someone can shed some light.

PS: Anyone know the white 300 around Ashford, saw and flashed hime on the way to Wye this morning.

Where do you feel the vibration - does it come through the base of the seat (through yer backside) or through the steering wheel?

Through the wheel, although it does make the dash shake.

You thinking centre donut?

Tim

Yeah but you'd feel that more through the seat, or if you put your hand on the transmission tunnel/handbrake..

Hmm - I do occasionally get a similar vibration.. Believe it or not, its because (as far as I can tell) I'm missing the centre front undertray, so the left & right sections are flapping and vibrating... Worth checking I guess..

It's not that I reglassed and repaired the undertrays when i recently replaced the power steering pump.

Head brickwall ===> Bang!!!

This is bugging the hell outta me.

Any more suggestions gratefully recieved,

I can't unfortunately make next Sundays meet at the Red Bull otherwise I'd let someone have a ride and see what I mean.

Tim

that could very well be, (and excuse me if my typing is correct) wink.gif

A wheel problem, ie your balancing, one of the little steel thingys they use, may have come of...

or does it happen when you brake?

Does it still vibrate when you switch overdrive off at 80mph and accelerate?

Warren, I've swapped front and back wheels so I don't think its the weights, might be out of balance though as the tyres are nearing the end of their servicable life.

Van, Have to try that one, why? are you gonna tell me there's something wrong with the auto box? God, please NO!

Tim,

It sounds like a loose coil connection. I had this a while back and @ 80mph-100mph the car vibrates esp. the transmission axle. At idle the car vibrates slightly-really weird and hard to discribe. At slow acceleration the vibrations returned. When the over drive is swithed off, the car "seems fine" -no vibration.

It turns out that I was running on five cynlinders. There was a loose coil. Took me three weeks to work it out and solve it. Initially I thought it was the autobox....pheeeeeew.

I hope this helps,

Van

Van,

You might be onto something, I've just been out with a torch and had a look under the bonnet.

Now, bear with me on this, I know that there is a coil per plug, is this attached directly to the top of the plug sitting inbetween the inlet manifold 'fingers'? If so I have just discovered that 4 of the 6 connectors on the top have been 'mullered' (tech term smile.gif), a couple just have the wires pushed in and a cable tie holding them, why I didn't notice this before I don't know, just too many wires I guess.

I have had a couple of beers so I'm not going for a 100mph blast down the M/W tonight but will first thing tomorrow.

In the mean time if anyone has any of the connectors that I can resolder the wires into I'd be very grateful - money waiting.

Will let you know result tomorrow

Thanks Guyz

yrup thrat mray very wrell bre problem,,,

I would have thought it's more likely down to the wheel change round.

They will be worn in a completely different way from front to rear.

I found a huge lump on the inside of one of mine once so maybe they need a good check over. Gave me nasty vibes.

Much like a testicular inspection... LOL

Sorry, probabally didn't make this clear, it was vibrating before I rotated the wheels, that's why I tried swapping them to see if I could eliminate that from the equasion.

Unfortunately not frown.gif

Tim

did this not come about after you changed your brakes discs?

Warren,

Always had slight vibration, even prior to changing the discs, put it down to the knackered tie arm bushes, only changing them made the steering more precise just didn't cure all of the vibration.
