I've had a word with the local LPG engine gasser chaps and they say that they could put LPG onto my NA Jap Spec Auto. It would give me about the equivalent of 40 mpgs with a minimal loss of power. He has all the tech specs. About £1200...Any comments or reasons why I shouldn't??

I guess it would work OK on an NA, dont thinkg a TT would be too happy with it... my buddy had his Jeep converted, saved him a fortune.

you will actually get slightly worse MPG on LPG but as its so cheap you will be paying the same for fuel as if you were getting 40mpg on unleaded..

Am I right in saying LPG is a lower octane than even the crappiest unleaded thats why you get the poorer performance?

Yes apparntly it's 8% less octan..able than unleaded. But I do 120 miles a day!!!!!

Go for it! My girlfriend had her Astra done as she does loads of work mileage; you can't tell the difference when it's running on petrol or LPG. And one of my mates had his 4L V8 Disco done to make it remotely affordable to run.

My only comment is that £1200 is very reasonable- would it run a piggyback system from your existing ECU, or does it have a stand-alone ECU? And is it single point or multi-point? I gather that single-point doesn't quite have the response, (which of course for a Zed is pretty important!)

It's a multi point injected, piggy backed ECU system. Biggest problem is where to put the gas tank. It has to fit behind back seat I guess. REAL UGLY

I've read that the price of LPG is really going to rocket in price when it becomes more popular. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. :xxx:

It might well rocket, but I reckon it'll still have to be significantly cheaper to keep the greenies happy. All the more reason to get the conversion done now to recoup the money!

As far as the tank goes, can they not fathom a custom arrangement with several cylinders to fit under your boot carpet? There's quite a lot of space there if you remove the spare wheel and polystyrene bits for the jack etc.

I thought about this (on my jap NA auto).

I think you'll loose about 8% power. I was hoping somone else would do it and I could see if it wrecked their car! I know petrol has lots of extra chemicals which keep the engine happy (anti knock, lubricants etc) and I dunno if LPG would have those.

Mind you, with the money you'd save, you could easily buy nitrous. I think a Jap spec NA auto LPG nitrous could be the connosieur's choise of 300!

Now there's a combination I'd bet nobody has tried before!! Question is if you use a wet nitrous kit do you inject Petroleum or LPG????? :)

the problem i had on a range rover with lpg was the second ecu for the gas, after running for a 100 mile or so when i switched back over to petrol the cars ecu had to re-learn for a while--poor running--bad tickover--that kinda put me off the lighter fuel, anyway there would be noway ide consider running my tt on that tweed jacket fuel anyway

i had a ford probe 24v and converted it myself to the safety specs, it cost me £700 for the kit, if you do 100 miles a day for six months it makes the money back.

What??? The government increasing the price just to line its pockets and introduce stealth tax number 76????

(according to a paper last week there were 75) :mac1: :mac1:
