Think im gona join the broken Z club  This is my second rad in as many months and has gone again in the same place. Its down by the drain plug along at the very bottom. Cant see why this has gone again as the second rad i got was almost new. No pipes has rubbed against. Im changing the gearbox to a manual so do you think i should change the rad to a koyo manual version coz obvisously i will have no need for the oil bit in the rad.

Thanks

If your car has,nt been antifreezed corectly the rads rot from the inside out , mine looked fine but pissed out in the same area !

Did you see my thread on the uprated one i had made at sercks,

hand made out of brass with alot thicker core , might not be as bling as a koyo but this one will outlast the car ,hope this helps any ;)

I presume its a new one that blew? Did you bleed it up

properly? Mine was a real bitch, had loads of air in it.

Are the head gaskets ok?

Hi mate, it was a second hand rad but was only a few months old, it looked brand new and inside, i made shaw id flushed it out properly and bleeded her up, takes abit of time though. There is no oil in the water and no water in the oil and she runs loverly. 2months ago i had the heater matrix go and just bypassed the heater matrix for a while then the rad went. ive had a new heater matrix in for around a month now. ive heard that manual zeds dont seem to have this prob.

Thanks

Funny you should say that my earth on the batt keeps coming off, bloody thing, sorted it to days ago by making a small shim. do you think this could of caused it?

Thanks

Hanksy

dont know whether your earth connection would of caused the rad to go? but i did buy a grounding kit from mr pete shrimp, just to reduce the chance of earthing faults etc..heater matrix hope it gets sorted bud :duffer:

I took the old one so they could copy the size , mounting lugs and to get the angles of the inlet and outlet correct . They will also fit any extra bosses you might want in case your going to fit an aftermarket temp guage, it only took a week from walking in with the knackered one to walking out with the new one , probably quicker than if i had got a replacement from nissan ;)

just ordered mine from http://www.z1motorsports.com cheaper than a standard 1 mine has gone in the same place, me dad took the core out that was leaking and glued the ends in with araldite has been ok so far just wanted a temperary job untill me new one arrives

Hi matey,

Wasn't this my old rad that you bought? I can't even remember who I posted it to now.

Like you said it was almost new and had only done a couple of hundred miles.

I only replaced it to fit one of those uprated Howe rads as I was needing extra cooling.

I think I posted the rad to you in the Howe box LOL

I got mine from Z1 along with a load of other bits and they are certainly good quality.

Give them a call - they know a few of us from this site and are very helpfull.

The only problem is there may be something else wrong thats causing the rad to pop

I'd do a test for head gasket failure as it might be exhaust gas getting into the water and pressurising the system :(

I think you can get a test kit to do this?

Chris.

Hi Chris, yep i did get the rad from you and it looked brand new, it has been fine for ages then a couple of days ago i saw a small puddle under the car, looked at rad and it seems to be leaking where my other one did before , ive checked oil in water etc and all is fine, the car pulls fine, the rad is normally still presurized for up to an hour afterwards, is this norm?

Thanks

You might not have oil in the water or vice versa but if there's exhaust getting in it can cause probs.

Not sure how this happens but I was told it does sometimes.

my new rad turned up to day nice bit of kit I've got this web address if its any help from the makers may even get it cheaper http://www.howeracing.com/Radiators/Index-CustomRadiators.htm

Nice one that was quick to. ive just emailed people at Howe racing so fingers crossed that they reply.

emm, i ran the engine after it had cooled down and all was fine, started her up to put her in the garage today and fook me she is running rough, wouldnt idle properly then stalled and couldnt start her for ages, finally got her going and parked her up and still idling funny, its munked out alot of black shit on the garage door and the tail pipe is wet as, was also alot of condensation cuming out i think, looked at me air/fuel gauge and she is running rich as + the fuel pump was very noisey but that did go quieter after a while. all very strange hope its nothing

More than likely running rough cos you've got a bad connection on one of your coil packs. I'd check the grounding points on the engine - maybe just fit a grounding kit (available from pete shrimp). One thought - have you checked the cross member under the radiator? These have a habit of corroding and splitting in the middle. If this has happened it may literally be pulling the radiator apart  Just something to check as it does happen.

I hope it is a dodgy connection, ive been waiting for a grounding kit off mr shrimp for 3weeks now  , il also have a look at the cross member 2moro. thanks Andy i dont want to be changing head gaskets.
