What salary difference could I drop to keep the same standard of living in rip off Surrey? Lets say 50K here would be the equivalent of what in the North East/West?

I have a crappy manufacturing job and I dont seem to do bad with what I earn, but then again it's down to your lifestyle!

I smoke but I dont feel the need or want to get absolutely hammered every weekend spending a small fortune on booze like a lot of people I know.

and they say how come you have a car like that?

Not much experience here but I would imagine if you're on 50k down there should be o.k. with 37ish k up here.

dont know about north east but in the east midlands house prices have rocketed while salaries have pretty much stayed the same, 4 years ago a nice 3 bed semi would have cost u 50-60 k u cant even buy a bleeding terrace for less than 70k now, average wages around here seem to be 10 - 20k , beer prices are extortionate to what they used to be, pint of stella 2.50, and eating out ain cheap either a meal for 2 and 2 drinks cost 25 quid at a pub ne mind a proper restaurant, makes me wonder what people do round here cos the increase in flash motors has doubled, every other car is bmw merc or mecedes, mansfield used to be a nice fun place but if theres a square inch of land available they build a block of flats or a retail park on it :mad:

I think its the same everywhere! Had some good times in Nottingham:D To put in perspective down here a Studio flat = 115k, 1 Bed 140K, 2 Bed 170K, Detached House 3 bedroomed, garage = 400K 300Zx = 50p:D

Yep this is the same over in this part of the midlands also. As we are on the East Coast Main Line (Railway) house prices round here are stupid. Only an hour into 'That there London like' :p

50k what sort of job do you do now bud ?????????????

what you have to remember is there the same job you do in the north??

the 1 thing here the standared of living is alot cheaper and houses are cheaper than where you are now.

Up North the beer is cheaper, stronger (not watered down) and is no flat.

we also have gravey in chippies.

The question to ask is really what fraction of your income goes on your mortgage? That's still the biggest factor by far.
