My Speedo Dont Work

Hmmm, this afternoon my speedo definatly worked but this evening it has stopped. If I hit the dash the speedo works for about 5 seconds before erraticaly going back to 0.

Hmmmmm, any I ideas. All the other dials work.

I think it must just be a wire getting loose or something. You any Ideas?

Does anyone have any idea what I can do. I have taken out the dash pod, but now dont know what to do. I have cleaned the connectors and now the speedo dont work at all. But now my turbo gauge is slightly out. When I turned on the ingition the needle used to goto 0 and whe at idle the needle was touching the -14. Now when the ignition is on the turbo is nearly touching the first bar and the same with the car at idle, it nearly touching the first bar after the -14.

Any one have any clues.

ThankZ

Sorry Stu,

I buggered off last night after posting that question.

No ideas really, just remembered some peeps having trouble after having Imports converted.

Tried everything. Is there a way to test the speed sencor or is it phone Johnny time?

Stu, have ya checked the soldering joints as that guy suggested on TT.net???

Could be as simple as that and save you a shit load of cash! wink.gif

I have taken it all apart and I cant see what he is on about. I have e-mailed him asking to explain more but no answer yet. Prob still asleep.

I have actually taken the speedo out and looked at all the circutry and I cant see any bad looking soldering, the board looks in mint contition.

I have phoned Johnny but he is down south today.

But reading other posts on TT.net, if it is the speed sensor then your rev counter dont work. Its working perfectly.

Im at a loss

Stuart - sounds like a bad earth fella - any chance of getting down my way this evening?

Right the trip counter and mile o-metre, works, which says to me that the speed sensor is working. What do you think?

Stuart

If the speed sensor is knackered then the rev counter, milometer etc will still work.

If the speed sensor is fecked then when you turn on the ignition the power light will flash 10 times.

Also a faulty SS will affect the power steering which goes heavy all of a sudden.

All the above happened to me and was fixed with a new SS.

None of that happens. My power steering is fine, the light dont flash.

All I can think of is the needle motor, or just a loose connection some where.

Simon, How much did it cost to get fixed?

Stuart

Stuart OK sounds like your speed sensor is OK then and it must be a duff connection or a dry solder joint somewhere.

Cost of a SS is less than £100 and not too difficult to fit once the car is on ramps. It's on the driver side of the gearbox.

I think it is a bad earth now. It worked this morning for a while then stopped again. Taking it apart again

I wiggled wires I have cleaned contacts and re soldered joints, and I think I have fixed it. Thanks to you all who helped or tried to help

Stuart

Doh, yeah of course, sorry Stu! Me more dickhead than usual! biggrin.gif

I had the temp gauge pack up on the Kirk, it was flickin' around and going beserk one Friday on the way back to de Wales...Aiii...in traffic!!! Gettin' on me nerves big time then nothing, just packed up.

So took it to Captain James T service department and they said the wiring was brittle and the joints(eeeppphhhhhhh! Good shit maannnn!) were Phuket!

They soldiered the joints(phhoooooooooooooo...blowback anyone? Giggle! biggrin.gif) and all was fine again.

Bleedin' oil pressure gauge is doing the same fan-dango at the mo...need to check it...boooselecta!!! biggrin.gif
