Hi all,

just a quick note to introduce myself. Dont yet own a 300ZX, the main reason ive joined the forum is to gain more knowledge about the car before i do buy one.

Went to Japfest at Castlecoombe, quite a good turnout you had, didnt see many on the track though (compared to loads of 200SXs), why is this?

Also went to the drifting competition at Silverstone recently, great fun. I'm guessing drifting must be near impossible in a car with four wheel steering?

Met two or three of you at JAE @ Billing Aquadrome a few months back, sorry cant remember your names but nice1 to the chap who let me sit in the drivers seat of his lovely looking TT (think you said you were in the armed forces?). Also went looking around the Supras and 3000GTs but just cant get as excited over them. That Z32 on the rolling road blowing flames out the back was incredible.

Going to Traxx this Sunday, anyone else?

Ive been searching Autotrader for the Z32 (which is the model i want), i currently drive a manual car but considering the immense power and the fact that most are autos i'll probably end up getting an auto.

Ive been reading various buying guides for Z32s on the net but have a couple of queries:

Am i wise to buy K reg onwards due to early cars having more known problems and `92 onwards having better interiors? Correct me if im wrong.

What difference can you expect to pay in insurance terms between a t-turbo and non-turbo? I would much prefer turbo to non (dont we all?).

Are they all insurance group 20?

What percentage of people use them for special events only, in other words, do you all use them as your only every day car? (as mine would be).

When looking to buy would you say dont buy a car over x amount of miles or are the engines / turbos pretty robust at high mileage? Should i haggle more for a car over a certain mileage?

Do insurance companies discriminate imports to UK cars like they do my current Japanese sports car?

Finally, do you have localised club meets? Im in the West Mids and i'd love to come and see / chat cars at the meets if that was possible. I also prefer to buy privately as apposed to from a dealer so any hints and tips i could pick up would be of great benefit.

Thanks for your help and apologies to the moderators if this is in the wrong forum, looking forward to Traxx on Sunday.

Hi Jon

There are a few going to trax on sunday so pop over and have a chat.

If your looking for one then check out the forsale section as theres some decent ones on there.

Inanswer to your questions:

There were a few problems with 1989 cars but most will have been put right now anyway.

Yes after 92/93 the series 2 car did have a different interior and yes it does look better, it also had electric passenger seats

Being as you can get classic insurance on the zed then insurance is very reasonable so go for the turbo everytime and yes its group20 i think

Loads of people on here use them for their every day driver some just for weekends

Some insurance companies do charge a premium for imports some dont, subscribe and you can get insurance through on of our traders who gives a very nice discount, i pay £260 a year fully comp!!

Yes we have regional events people and we are looking to hold more and more events in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled.

Cheers

Kirbz
