Door lock ( barrel) fix

Door lock fix tip

The door barrel on the drivers side have a tendency to fail in service leaving owners unable to lock/unlock the door with their key as the key spins round and round( not all have full closure alarms) subsequently having to reach over from the passenger to lock the car then unlock it from the passenger side later.

The problem is due to the failure of a small piece of plastic which trips the lock lever rod, as often the case this part is not easily available s often requiring a barrel set is purchased at some excessive cost.

Now if you have the time to fabricate this part out of metal and form it the correct shape great but if not, then a little known tip is the passenger lock has the same piece of plastic fitted, now although handed the part WILL change over to the drivers side, once you have removed the two handles ( 10 mm nuts ) the barrels are removable and the plastic is kept captive by a circlip, release this and change over the parts, of course this means you cannot lock the car from the passenger side but usually you would use the drivers lock anyhow which will operate the central locking anyway.

THATS the kind of repair bill I like! :D

Good un' jeff.

Jeff heres one for you, can you if fact change the drivers and passengers lock over, some one has given me the pleasure of keying my drivers so now i cant lock the door from the out side as per post above.

So is it possible cos the passenger door lock is really surplus, cos as you say you lock the doors from the drivers side.

cheers mate
