Guest ozy.tt Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Hi all my 96 tt 2+2 skips from side to side a bit at the rear end when i go over a bump any idears?? also does jap sat nav work over here thanks Ozy Quote
SRRAE Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Either the suspention is fecked, get some new ones, or the HICAS rack has play in it. Either get it fixed (Kaching!!!!!!!! Expensive, especially as I think your HICAS will be electronic) or get a HICAS elimination kit. The car handles much better with out the HICAS apparently. To test your suspention, take the hand brake off and then bounce on the back of the car to make the suspention move. It should go down and then back up and stop. It if bounces a few times before stopping the suspention is gone. Dont know about the Jap Sat Nav. Quote
Guest ozy.tt Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Hi just been out there and no bouncing(pheuuuuuu) Quote
Guest scoops Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 get your hicas arms checked for play. When I had mine changed it reduced the side to side skipping a bit, but when i put new shocks and springs on it totally went way. its probably a combination of the 2. Quote
Guest sypheous Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Jap sat nav wont work over here, and it's not a case of just changing a disc, all the maps are stored on the sat nav unit, best to chuck it!!! Quote
Paul C Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 mine was doing the same & was the rear hicas link arms. jack the rear up & shake the rear wheels side to side. any play will show up in either the outer bushes in the hub, or in my case in the inner joint of the hicas link arms (inside the small rubber boots). both of these items are replacable. also excessive rear toe will cause this. so get a 4 wheel alignment done after any repair work :) Quote
EvoluZion3 Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 i had the same problem and it was the hicas arms. could be looking at £200-£250 to fix :( Quote
Guest Dave.. Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 My rear had a mind of its own on bumps- found track rod end knuckles on rear rack knackered, jack up the car on the diff get hold of wheels and check for play. then you will have to get tracking checked (four wheel advised). Quote
Daves_Zed Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Hi just been out there and no bouncing(pheuuuuuu) This may sound like a stupid question, but did you bounce it on BOTH sides, individually? Just a thought, as my rear suspension was only gone on the one side, so the bad bounce only showed up on the dud side, if that makes sense. Just a thought  Quote
Guest ozy.tt Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 thanks no only bounced middle getting it looked at next weekend .....but now i can stand there and have somthing to say and not look like a numpty lol thanks to you all again Quote
Shunter Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Mike at MJP sells the rear arms, about £49 per side, fitted them myself, had it tracked up, job done!!! Remember if somebody sets the tracking on your car, they have to set the rear wheels first!!! Quote
