Insurance

Has anyone approached a broker to see if a 'club' insurance policy could be set up?

How many people would use it off this group if it was cheaper? Would have to be quite a few for it to work.

I might have a contact that I can chat with.

Need to gauge reaction first, might also mean that the 300 forum has to be turned into a 'proper' club.

Let me know guyz before I open me gob biggrin.gif

I'd be really interested in this. It does make a huge difference. My friend pays £600 a year on a 911 Carrera 4 because of his Porsche Club membership, but tried to get a Z and they wanted £1400 for insurance. Makes no sense. He gets a similar huge discount from being a member of the Ferrari owners club too on his 328GTS.

I suspect though that they would require the club to have some kind of annual subscription to make it an official club, otherwise everyone in the world can say they are a member. This wouldn't bother me anyway, £20 a year to save £500 on insurance is not a problem! It also doesn't mean that the web site has to be restricted for non-members either so I can't see a down side to it.

p.s. my renewal is Dec 3rd so lets hurry this up biggrin.gif

Defo gets my vote, excellent idea! wink.gif

Input from Craig would be useful here as he runs the site.

Seeing as I'm not insuring my Z just yet and have another car on the go with the Kirk, I'd be mad for cheaper insurance...who wouldn't!

Gets my vote, £20 quid a year and that could go towards some kind of magazine with ads in it for upgrade parts from shops? Stickers for our cars, key rings, badges etc? That way the money goes back into the club as a non-profit set up and we all benefit.

If you can get cheaper insurance for members then go for it, mine is due up next June, so I've missed out here, but its getting harder to insure imports so anything like this is good to check out at least.

Craig - not stepping on yer toes m8 - just tableing some ideas. biggrin.gif

Don't want to add to your workload and cause any headaches smile.gif

_anything_ that reduces insurance would be awesome...

Top idea....must give sympathy for the work load it will/would generate...

Yeah, worth a look into for sure..

Let's see what quotes we could get as a club... so we can consider the set up of a proper club yes

20 pounds was just a suggestion lol not fixed price, but the cool thing about that is, if people like porker want to post , its there money... lol

My friend has in a Lancia one. Its good for insurance claims too. He got a letter from the Lancia club for the insurance company saying his car was worth £xxxx amount after the insurance company offered a small amount for it.

I wouldnt mind paying £20 a year too.

Also it will be a good way of the media contacting us. Like that program on ITV with the Z on. They featured the Yorkshire Z Club.

Far fetched but it might happen.

Stuart

One of the insurance companies I contacted to get a quote from when I bought my z, said they give discount for club memberships BUT you need to have a membership number...

Jez and i tried this last year at Greenlight brokers.

worked fine for UK cars, but was a problem with imports.

If we can find an insurer that will do the deal regardless of origin, then it's gotta be worth a go smile.gif

we talked about 'proper club' in the past.

i suppose it's getting big enough now that we ought to do it....

but, how do go about getting deals etc ?

what will people get for their money ?

anyone have experience i this sort of thing ?

i dont mind doing it, but lack the experience....

any 'southerners' want to meet and talk about it ?

Craig, I'll join the chat.

Lets just make sure it happens before December 3rd biggrin.gif

At the moment I'm treasurer for the Renault Turbo Club.. There's quite a bit of work goes to running a club, and people can get very petty when membership money is involved (we have about 500 members currently)..

It's not that easy a thing to run, and can take quite a bit of time..

I tried this year also and basically it's not going to happen.

I was also pointed out the fact that if you have a small club then one person making large claims can upset the other members premiums.

They really really are not interested. They can't even be bothered to seen me a valid cover note.

Anyhow, the best thing we can do is to reccomend the good places/premiums.

Comments noted.

I am on various commitees withing the TSSC (largest Triumph club in the world 14,000+ members worldwide) so I have some ears that I can bend about this.

I will approach the insurance co. have a contact at the top. They don't have a problem with Imports and run several and many club schemes.

If needs be we could try for a performance Nissan scheme, could encompass 200s, 300s, Skylines etc.

One of the schemes currently running is a TR policy but is available to other Triumph Club members, agreed valuation etc, I have a fully tuned Spitfire and pay £110 fully comp.

I'm having a meeting with the TSSC at the end of the month so I'll have a chat.

Craig - If you do decide to go the route of forming a 'proper' club would love to get involved. Yes, I know I'm a newcomer biggrin.gif
