Guest Scottywil Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Damn! Started last night and is still doing it today. When i press the accelerator the revs dip slightly before rising. If the car is at idle and i just tap the pedal the revs clearly drop by a few hundred rpm. No problems at higher revs, just when i start to press the accelerator. Whats going on there then? Quote
vijay Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 It might be worth cleaning the thottle bodies out and spray down the IACV valve with carb cleaner too. Vijay Quote
Scubie Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 mine does this too. what's the IACV valve n where is it . dont no owt about engine's but willin to learn. Quote
vijay Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 near the battery, behind the plenum is a black pipe which is a 90 degree bend, Remove the nearest end (the other end goes to the idle valve) and spray carb cleaner down it. Vijay Quote
Scubie Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 ad a look n there's loada pipe's there. dont no where idle value is either. i told u i no nowt about engine's. im off to thor next week. im sure someone can point me in the right dirction there. thanks for tryin. Quote
vijay Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 just took a pic for you so here you go, the one with the arrow :) Quote
Guest Scottywil Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Cheers Vijay, ill check that out. I was playing aroung with the battery yesterday, could have knocked it off?? Will that cause the same effects? Just went to start it and the car was revving itself to 2000 then dropping to about 700, then back up to 2000 and so on. Annoying. If i press the accelerator at low revs its quite spluttery. Quote
Guest Rich Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I had my idling valve adjusted when it was given a consult check. Before it was a bit erratic idling, moving from about 1000-1200 down to 7 or 800. After adjusting it has been rock solid after warming up at about 900 totally steady. Don't know if this is th same kind of problem. Quote
Scubie Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 thanks vijay, :) i'll give it a sprayin tomoz. u neva no next week might try an engine change  lol Quote
Guest jaz Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 hi scot, b4 all that check that ur temp sensor or the actual connector is ok- common problem! jaz Quote
Guest Scottywil Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Cheers guys. Is the temp sensor the bit at the end of the pipes coming from the radiator? Right at the front of the engine? Do i just clean the throttle bodies with carb cleaner? Not sure if it is the same thing Rich. It has idled perfectly since i bought it, well up until yesterday anyway. It just seems to be struggling at very low revs and the idle is only erratic when i first turn the car on. I'll give the throttle bodies and IACV valve a clean and play with the temp sensor tomorrow. If the problems are still there i'll be back on here in no time. Quote
Guest jaz Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 yeah thats the one scott! start the car and hold it down n c if idling changes....the heat can corrode these connectors quite bad so make sure it has a good connection/contact! regards jaz Quote
Guest Scottywil Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Just popped out and gave the temp sensor connector a little clean. Took the plug off, gave it a clean and a little scrape, refitted and all seems to be ok. Starts fine, idles fine and picks up fine. Glad it was something so small. Thanks for the advice guys. Quote
