SWB - Speaker box in boot??

Have got a Jap, SWB, NA, Manwell and between the rear wheel arches is a box with 2 speakers fitted in the top. Is this a standard fit item????

 

If it is standard fit can it be removed???

 

Also how easy is it to get to the reverse switch on the gearbox??
