Ok tech question: 1mm oversized forged pistons, where from? And how much?

I see SE Parts have some, and Silvia Engineering have some too. Also, HITEQ......BUT..would anybody recommend anywhere? UK preferably.

(Smithy, I believe you might have some knowledge on this one?)

Cheers guyZ n Gals

Simon, sorry i used to, moved house couple of months back and lost a folder full of info.

Personaly i wouldn't pay SE the money (nearly 800 big ones)they sourcr them in the UK themselves, look up forged pistons on the net and look in back of Motorsport weekly, adverts in there for them, same make but should be cheaper, very easy to source in states though for decent jap ones like Jun, top secret etc, postage not expensive cos not alot of weight involved, i'd go with the latter, Smithy

Thanks for your quick reply Smithy! smile.gif

I'll keep looking on the net....I was hoping to avoid a foreign buy....but if thats the way to go, then I suppose I'll have no choice.

Cheers

Speak to me.

Johnny @ Grasshopper.

You should know by now mate.

Simon, I would agree with Smitthy on this one.... buy them from the States as this is the cheaper option.

Also, I would get the 0.5mm oversize as 1mm is too much on the cylinder walls.

I discussed this with my engine workshop who said that cylinder wall flex could be a problem under boost with a 1mm rebore.

Steve

And Steve's a man who knows, his is half UK and half Stateside !! LOL

Seriously though, greater choice and far cheaper prices, unless Johnny boy can come up with agood price, hope not, just had me engine rebuilt for the second time !!

Smithy

Paul,

Is your engine up and running?

What work have you had done to it?

Steve

Steve, car went in for a set of Hybrid turbo's to be done only, but has come out with set of roller bearing jobbies, jun flywheel and as you, now a full rebuild, again ! as this last job was very unexpected on a 6 1/2 grand engine, only 30,000 miles old, only upgrade i could afford at short notice was to have block copper ringed, linked up though to the new A-VCR and HKS AFR, should go well, Smithy

Read that, cheers, why is it, when you want about 20 guys to tell you the same thing, you end up with only a couple, went down the road of copper ringing simply cos it was half the price of a decent jap spec gasket and only takes a few days in machine shop, quickest i could get decent gasket was 6 weeks, i believe in preperation for what ever, in standard form i will do no harm, but should i uprate, which i can now with the bigger turbo's, i can run slightly higher than normal levels of boost, have heard of a couple of Zeds blowing the gasket, so at least that should be no worry to me, even got a piccie of it if you like.

This is making a good read so far! (Johnny, I'll be on the blower in a minute m8 smile.gif).

Wire-ringing: Thats what is currently about to be done to my block. Holbay Engineering (nr Ipswich) are doing to work, since they're 5 mins from where I live. The fella there reckons there'll be no problem with a 1mm oversize unless you're running more than 50PSI boost!! Imagine that! (That'll be one hell of loud 'Woooosh' from your dump valves if you've got them fitted!) Anyhow, he's advised me to stick with a standard head gaskett with the rings in, since it will be sufficient for 40ish PSI boost.

Holbay have been building rally engines for 30-odd years so I'll put my trust in them.
