VIN CHECKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone here help with checking the year of manufacture on the 300ZX.

It seems the registration plate you get is not necessarily the age of the vehicle. This is because the De registration document can be duplicated with a later year.

My car is suppose to be a 1994, however my seat belts are stamped 1990/91.

Does anybody know any web sites where I can check this out!!!

Leigh.

Is yours an import ?

There is a company that will check this out for you - can't remember their name right now but it will come to me.

If it's a UK model Nissan can be very helpful sometimes (sometimes!). You can also check the chassis number manufacturuing date on the Aussie or NZ site.

Thanks Andy.

Checked the Aussie site, and my car was manufactured in 1991.

This means I have paid about £3000+ more for my car than its worth.

I'd have a word with the importers Leigh.. See what they say..

At least you have a lovely looking car..

FWIW http://www.separts.co.uk also offers a VIN check/lookup..

Good luck Leigh.

Spoke with the Importer, but he is still insisting that the car was first registered in 1994, even though the car was manufactured in 1991.

Im not sure Nissan would keep cars lying around for 3 years before selling. Although from the Aussie link only a handful of cars were made in 1993, and 1994 of the 2+2 TT variant.

I have emailed a company called MVI Import services, and hopefully they can find out when the car was first registered.

I still have pictures of the car when it was at the auction house, so if anybody can translate the japanese number plate let me know.

Leigh.

When an import is registered in the UK I thought they assigned a number plate that was in keeping with the age of the car. It is unlikely that they would have, or be able to translate, the registration information from Japan. I know when they did mine they went to some effort to determine the age of the car, hence the J plate.

You'd be amazed at how long some cars are kept waiting in car parks before being bought and registered.

There's a car sanctuary not far from where I live that just has rows and rows of unregistered cars out in all weathers.

When I used to work at Vauxhall, some of the cars were sat so long that grass seeds had blown underneath the car and were growing through the engine. But I mean, who wants a Vauxhall?? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

N.B. This is not supposed to be offensive to Vauxhall drivers....actually no, it is - I worked there - I saw Manufacturing in action, I would never ever buy a Vauxhall biggrin.gif

Yeah, but that's my point. For imports it's not about first registration it's about date of manufacture that is gained from the chassis/VIN number.

As I have mentioned before I have seen a yellow '89 UK car (No. 35 off the line) registered on an N plate ! I was considering buying it, for a silly amnount of money, before I discovered how old it was.

Guyz,

The Jap cars come over with a deregistration document from Japan. It is this that tells when the car was first registered.

However some dishonest Importers are able to fake this document, and change the japanese registration date. It is this document the DVLC/A use to give your Jap Import the correct plate, and not the VIN, which tells the manufacturing date. I am suspicious that the car was manufactured 3 years before it was registered.

I am hoping that I can trace the original date of registration.
