When I had my heads done last year I was told that both my turbo's were fine.

Since then the front seal from this turbo seems to have started leaking.

Can you have a look at this vid (it's only 1 meg in size). http://www.300zx-mods.co.uk/vids/Fooked_Tub.avi (right click save as) and tell me what could have caused this ?

Could a possible theory be that one of the oil feed pipes wasn't done up tight enough and this has caused an air lock in the pipe, so the tub suffered from oil starvation.

Or do you think this is purely down to ware and tear ?. The tubs have done 80k miles now and that last 6 years of that have been decatted and the last year has been at 14 - 15 psi.

could be possible to overtighten the banjo type fitting or not quite tight enough so that the oil holes do not line up with the pipes properly , real easy to do , only has to be a few degrees out to cut down the oil flow

Nah banjo fittings will work in any orientation ;)

TBH its more than likely just wear and tear - once it starts to move about the wear rate increases rapidly...

oil feed pipe is under pressure, so would piss out with oil if it wasnt tight enough

1 litre every 400 miles, that's on the verge of pissing out isn't it .

So what can I check to make sure that it is only wear and tear. I'm putting jwt5300bb's in place of these and if there is a problem in that area I need to sort it.

Rossy,

Lucky I was spinning the turbine with my finger, if not you would have been really impressed

DONT FORGET THE "Y" MATE Please I hate "Ross" LOL

and would be more impressed if they were still connected and spooling.....

Apparently from your bragging, it needs shaving off a little..LOL

Get a nice set of Braided oil lines...can't see um, but bigger diamator meens more oil flow..

....which would be pointless on a BB turbo since you fit restrictors in the pipe where it fits the turbo ;) LOL

WHY?

I just got mine from Smithy T28BB with larger oil feeds as was led to believe more oil flow the better. So why restrict it..would that not be a bad idea?

Whoa, yer oil feeds are the same diameter Rossy, the advantage of braided ones for yer BB jobbies is ease of fitting, ease of removal, ease of fitting any attachements into the line, plus the obvious you should always replace oil feeds when swapping turbo's and the braided ones come out cheaper than stock and require no modification to fit.

BB turbo's should run either same or lower oil amounts through lines, i posted this a couple of weeks ago in a similar thread. Oh and this applys to BB turbo's only. Hope that helps fella ;)

Stu, dunno how you can do this now yer engine is already out, BUT from an old case of early turbo failure it was determined as slight oil starvation by attaching a gauge to each oil line as it came out of the block to see if there was differences in pressure and flow and in this case there was, dunno how it was solved cos now yer getting down into the block, but an idea anyhow.
