jonce Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 When im driving and come to a stand still, at traffic lights etc... i get a funny smell. It smells like clutch plate burning or brakes. The thing is, i drive an auto so theres no clutch. The box has recently been fitted from S.E and the gearbox oil is fine. Also i have checked all the brakes and they all look ok (renewed recently). I fitted new rear pads 2 weeks ago. What else can cause this mistery smell  Any ideas. Cars running fine :D Quote [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Guest scoops Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 It will be a fluid dripping on to your exhaust and burning off. kinda hard to explain the difference but if its kinda acrid, acidy tcp kinda smell it could be autpbox juice, if it well an oily smell then it will be oil. Get underneath , have a look. Quote

WillieO Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 overfilled autobox fluid might be ejected out of the ickey little breather pipe on top of the box near the rear of it when being booted. This then gets onto hot exhaust and instant aroma ensues. Quote
TopLess Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 An alternative source for your pong maybe a leaking heater core the smell of the antifreeze can be a bit acrid. Quote
jonce Posted August 20, 2004 Author Posted August 20, 2004 Got my car over a pit and no leaks?? Then again since the hot weather has gone theres no smell?? I wonder?? Quote [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Steve-o Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 All cars smell a bit, especially on start up! all my prev turbo cars have smelt like walnuts lmfao! The heater will always pull through smells from the engine, especially in big engines like the Z. If it smells fousty then it could well be coolant (or aircon? especially on recirc), burnt smell (plastic or toxic), brakes or oil, a petrol smell could be lines above plenum they are well old and can crack a little, Quote
WillieO Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 You want to beware of a sick auto or blocked cooler. Mine had the pong the weeks before it expired and if you opened the bonnet after you parked hot and see some faint smoke then your tranny oil is too hot. Maybe a combination of hot weather, the import cooler and tough city driving conditions or over/under filling? Quote
