What Percentage of Olympic athletes do you think are on Drugs?

Having trained with many of them when I was competing, how many do you think are using substances banned by the OIC to enhance their athletic performance?

Mark I just cant see you in tights running along a beam

But at a guess 20%

41-50 mate, they cant all be honest, pressure will get to them I guess to get that edge.

And what are you classing performance enhancing? proplus or hard stuff lmao.

  • Author

Proplus aka caffeine, is now legal as is pseudoephedrine, in any quantity, seems that they are relaxing the rules more and more!

ud think with all those white lines around the track they would invent nose running. LOL

but seriously id say a small proportion say 10% of athletes use it strict drug testing has probably put athletes of,spose speed cameras dont really slow speeders down so who knows

greg

Over 95%, and in the words of MAC.....FACT! However testing positive depends on how much money and backing u have. I know 3 people who's living is made from masking drugs in the olympics athletes blood! They get paid very well.

Steroids are only a small %, we have moved on now to more dangerous substances.

Did I miss that thing on TV where they got a bunch of athletes, pumped em full of banned substances and checked to see how much it helped or has it not been on yet?

If I missed it what was the outcome? were they all breaking world records?

There's so much money involved, that these sports men & women become comercial commodities who's diets and lifestyle depend upon their performance. Some are fed stuff and don't know. Others know that without the edge they will loose all they have and the risk is worth it. I personally think they should allow anything none life threatening to be used.

Lets face it the original Olympians ate bulls testicles, drank blood amongst other things to boost their tostesterone levels and Flyogarec mushrooms to increase adrenalin levels. Thus the feats of strenght and endurance where heroic. Which was the point of the games. It was spectacular and beyond beliefe.

So I'm for doping and genetic engineering, because like motor sport the spin of advances for us all would be worth it. + The games would be interesting.

I was really looking forward to this BUT as usual total pants. We were lead to beleive these test subjects would be athletes. They were not. Give anyone untrained 6 weeks of decent coaching and diet and of course they would improve. Do steroids work? Yes, but how much is pyschological we dont know?

How many of our Olympic athletes are on drugs? Well, judging by our usual performance the answer is.........NOT ENOUGH OF THEM!! :nono:

The object was to take 6 athletes, to which they where, they trained for various reasons, all have VO2max levels above 60mm.l.kg and their wingate power tests where high, that alone describes them as an athlete. The pure fact that they where not on any international team is beside the point intirely.

The fact that there was a substantial increase in the performance of all the athletes over a 3 week period that where taking roids is an eye opener. There up to this point has been no scientific study in the amount of performance increase other than the athlete says they feel a difference.

There is a psychological anomoly that was very noticable amongs all the athletes in their behavioral patterns. Thoes on the roids where shown to become more agressive but more dependant and willing to follow which flys in the face of traditional thought that roids give you confidence.

All in all it was a great study and a great program. Hihly intresting that athletes on roids have faster adaptation in 3 weeks rather than 6. To a athlete this means that they will be 50% into their development 3 weeks faster than normal allowing for greater adaptation to their periodisation plan.

There are some that are clean. But they unfortunatly are the minority and to be fair they are the poorer athletes.

I have been reliably informed that the cost of the drugs and the cleaning bill is in excess of £25k a year. But when you look at the dividens that are to be won 25k isnt that much for these people.

The best drug guinepigs are the cyclyists, I would have to say 100% of them are taking some seriously heavy drugs, and what some of them have told me they do to get rid of the trace is a good enough reason for me not to go near them.

It was only marginally interesting, the fact that they used doses of steroids at 1/50 of the amount that athletes use them at, only gives us a small indication of their capability!

There is a cat and mouse game between the testers and the athletes at the moment!

The athletes have a tendancy to use drugs that leave the system within 24-48 hours but they are very toxic, or drugs that are legal, i.e. insulin is very anabolic.

*****cks! Considering I lecture to clinicians and the IOC on anabolic steroids I would like to say the following.

The applicants trained, that does not make them athletes. In fact most stated they hadnt trained for a couple of years! You can take any human not at his physical peak and they will make great gains given the applicants opportunities. If they had even bothered to try (no one would consent for obvious reasons) to get actual competing athletes, at a high natural level for a baseline and then given them drugs it might be worth considering.

The amount of testoviron given was 250mg per week. The average male produces upto 43mg per week naturally. This is a tiny amount compared to what athletes would take (although the expert last night stated that athletes take 50 times that amount). Id like to see someone inject 50ml of oil based solution!!!! Absolute crap! In fact taking 1 shot of 250mg would not even put you over the epi ratio needed to test positive on a IOC check, so they were not even cheating!

Whats the big eye opener that results happened within 3 weeks? The half life is 21 days which last time I looked was 3 weeks.

No one has ever said that steroids give you confidence? Infact its a well known fact that they dont. Mentioning that fact on TV doesnt make it anything new!

I could go on forever but this was a usual Channel 4 farce, it proves nothing. Having personally taken steroids for many years, competed at international level, trained and advised athletes on the use of drugs, presented papers to the IOC etc etc, this was tosh!

Oh and there is worthwhile studies out there if you want to look. This was not one of them!

... and what some of them have told me they do to get rid of the trace is a good enough reason for me not to go near them.

Care to shed any light?! Sounds intriguing...

You will know my old mate Tony Stevens then?

Name rings a bell. We all used to coach out of Tottenham back in 95/6. Eddie Bennett I think is still around. I miss the old days mainly because I was younger and my joints didnt kill me!

I trained at White Hart lane 88/89 with the little man syndrome guy Dave somebody or another, shame about eddie pengelli dying of the brain tumour!

Tony Stevens 5 times world powerlifting champion and now British Powerlifting team coach.
