G'Day everyone... I am Lady Smallfry's co pilot/slave labour... been a busy few months with the ZX Fairlady... from getting it registered and road legal just a few hours b4 Modified Nationals show... ICE in 8 hours b4 Jap Auto Show @ Billing...to getting it ready for USC last weekend so she could race...

The car is constantly surprising us... it's history is full of intrigue... word is it was a race car in Osaka Japan.. got brought out to UK and stripped of racing graphics and resprayed (not very well), custom leather interior fitted (not complete.. going to finish it myself)... the rest of the spec we are learning as we go.. like last weeks find.. Ohlin Adjustable Coilovers all round...

As most ZX's that have been lowered it is chewing through front tyres on the inside.. so next on the list is a front camber correction... just had the rear sorted 1 week ago.. was out 2.5 & 3 on the rear wheels..but need another back tyre now... also basket seal for the 3 piece split rims was missing on one wheel.. which had to be siliconed ...

With the help of Silviagod I fitted the rear venom LED lights (from Luke @ Z Centre)..also we found the front bumper was the wrong one.. wondered why when we bought the car the front bumper wasnt fitted at the time.. so last week some extremely tempory measures were taken and venting cut into the bumper...

Due to steering wheel change I got a cruise control unit from a stock steering wheel and am going to cutsom fit it below the ashtray area to allow this feature to work once more.

Big prob at the mo is as Lady Smallfry said... Safety Boost.. I have tested the ECU.. code 55.. just had the battery disconnected for over 24 hours.. made notta difference... held it on 2000 revs for a while.. noticed the odd bit of poppin in the exhausts... Ordered some Denso plugs a week ago just by coincidence... will check the coil packs when the plugs arrive.. the PTU.. where exactly is it.. and how do I clean it if it is dirty?

Hi m8,the ptu is on the left of the cambelt cover as you look at the engine[silver box type thingy!]-just need to pull off the connectos and clean the terminals with contact cleaner or equivalent,be careful with the plug though as they go brittle.HTH ;)

Saw the car parked/camped about 100 yards from us at USC hope you both had a wicked weekend and welcome to ZX mania...

Id make sure its running on all 6 as well, start it up and pull each injector connector off one at a time and see if it drops revs every time you pull one off!!! pardon the pun ;) are you sure your in safty boost if the ecu is putting a code 55 then you shouldnt be i'd also check for boost leaks or if you havnt got one already get an aftermarket boost guage

Got an HKS boost gauge... all seems spot on with that... so if it isnt safety boost... why else would we be only getting 4-5 psi?

Got a flier about Conzult at Billing... sadly haven't got one or know anyone with one... :(

Doesn't look like Lady Smallfry will do very well on the 0-60 tommoz at Donny South...oh well she needs all the practice at the starting line anyway :D even without boost she should beat the odd micra or corsa.

Only sign I have of any problem is the Cat Overheating light has come on briefly a couple of times.. that is it.. starting to mash my brain this.. done sooo much reading and researching... but mechanics around my parts can't even be trusted to work on a Laguna let alone a 300ZX... even the MOT centre asked me what brand and model the car was  so doesn't instill confidence... thus most of the work I have done myself with the help of a few friends

Any help advice or assistance more than welcomed... Lady Smallfry demands more power... and to be a strong contender next year on the 1/4 mile... so looks like many many hours of work ahead of me and lots of ££££'s

First thing to do is go round all the hoses and intake pipes and check for splits or not tightened up, if not then you really need someone who knows the zed to have a good look, i'm sure there will be a forum member not too far that would have a look

Aussie Elv get your Det Sensor checked... This will significantly lower your boost level. My god mate wait until your car runs at around 14psi you will love it mate the Z is a truly awesome car when it is running properly, it's just a case of having patience and persevering until you get there but when you do you will have a big grin from one ear to the other. :D :D :D

If the cats have collapse your boost gage will show the correct presure, but it will only be presurising the system. Undue the collors from the down pipe to the cat and give her a quick blast. Make sure she up to temp first. She'll be as noisy as John Dixons, but if she fly's then the cat are cat-put :slap:. If there no difference then its cost you only time and that another thing eliminated.
