Hi-

if you find out the packed weight, try this link for a shipping quote,

You could ask the sender to mark it "Warranty returned autoparts"- A guy did this for me and no duty etc. ( i then asked another if he would do it and he replied with a lecture about ethics!!)

But what if it goes walkies?. I doubt they would be insured.

I done this once "warranty returned autoparts" and UPS asked me to provide the recipt for original delivery and whether I had paid any tax on it then or not.....so its not 100% that you won't end up paying anything

thanks

Ammar

wot was th outcome? did u get out of paying it or did thy make u cough up?

When it comes to duty/ tax, the collection of this is done by the shipping co/ parcel co on behalf of HMCustoms& Excise.

In my experience when an item comes through the US postal service into Royal Mail it is selected at random to be checked and relevant duty/tax charged. (Even when the correct value is declared on the documentation)

There doesn't seem to be any particular rule. I have paid duty on some stuff but not on others.

(even some big stuff came through with no duty charged (4 Brake discs@ 65+Lbs in weight)

However- I've also had a several items shipped via UPS and they always bill for tax/duty. They look for payment over the phone well ahead of the item landing in the UK. (Courtesy have always used UPS when sending anything I've ordered)

Its best to factor the tax/duty in to your purchase, if it's not charged, it's an added bonus

On "warranty returns" they can still be insured for full value, however- if your sender marks the value of a $300 item at $50 on the customs declaration and it goes missing- you'd only get that value on insurance claims!!
