How far are you allowed to drive the car to be MOTed?

Featured Replies

i would have thought anything outside of your county would be takin the p

still spare a thought for those who live on the scilly isles...no mot centre...have to take the car in the bottom of a boat back to cornwall every 12 months

My problem is that the MOT expires 3 days before the car is booked into the garage to have the work done that will allow it to pass the MOT. Garage will be responsible for the MOT. Problem is that garage is 100 miles from where I live.

As long as it is booked in you can drive to the mot place, for mot or for mot work to be done (You can take it to any garage for mot work to be done as long as booked in)

Legally it has to be a reasonable distance but the distance is not confirmed and I know of no stated case .... it would be down to the clowns in a court to decide but reckon it would never happen, no MOT at court generally costs you a pittance in fines anyway...trouble is you need one to get tax,,now that is expensive if you get caught without it.
