Was driving around today and started to get a clunking noise from the passenger side suspention. Jacked up the car and found that an arm with a joint on it looked like it was broken.

Here are some pics to help, can anyone tell me the name of these parts and where to get them and how much of a sod they are going to be to replace, will be doing both sides.

Many thanks.

front tension rod bushes

you have a few options, i dont think nissan make the bushes seperatley, so it would have to be the whole arm from nissan.

i believe Nismo make the bushes, as do poly bushes (but polys are reputed to fracture the arm)

or buy rose jointed adjustable arms!!

not too bad a job, the arms are easy to get off, then just a case of replacing or pressing the old bush out & the new in

mine might be on the way out so does anyone rate these ajustable tension arms as they look quite reasonably priced +shipping of course etc

chris witor at superflex, i got mine from there.. just take them to the mechanic of your choice and get him to press them in. jobs a guddun. it should cost you less than 100 quid for everything, when i asked nissan to quote for the arms themselves they were 147 quid each  .......plus vat

I think Z center also does poly bushes ;).

Is your car off the road now then Nick, We could put tomorrow off till you get it sorted if you like.

I dont think you can just replace the bush on the Z cause you cant hammer it in, its best to get a new arm. Replacing bushes on a subframe etc is diff cause the casing olds it in vertically, where as this one can move horizontally causing premature wear (as well as the possibility of damaging when wedging them in)

Id go for polyflex if you did, cause they dont have the gunky shite in them they are just poly.

Cheers

yep iv got that gluey residue on the outside of mine does that mean renewal

Chris Witor Superflex in 3 years now and no cracked track arms - I check - well worth £50 ish and a couple of hours

Means they are worn yes mate, gradually the white silicone type shit will leak out under pressure and the bush will turn into a saggy bit of rubber crap, which will cause knocking under accerleration and general stress on the joints.

The newer poly type have no gack inside them as the material is flexible, and so last a million times longer. But it can be hard work sometimes getting the old ones out and new ones in without damaging.

You can hammer them out and put new ones in, up 2 u.

rather than having a rubber bush, they have a "rose joint", more like a bearing. gives radial movement but without the flex, which means firmer suspension.

also being adjustable means you can adjust your caster angle, which isnt possible as standard ;)

no, the caster angle is basically what causes the wheels to self centre, think shopping trolley!! ;)

still dont quite get wot it does/how it works lol

how does changing th castor angle affect th car, isnt it better that th castor angle isnt adjustabl therefor its always correct?

Ive just had those bushes replaced with poly ones. I just bought the bushes and got a garage to pop them in. Whats this about the poly ones fracturing the arm? never knew that and now im worried.
