The rear are 6x4 inches, and are easy to swap.

Without modifications to the "metal bracket" that the original front speakers are fitted to, you can fit 5.25 inch (13 cm) speakers without any problem. The hole in the bracket is 13cm if I remember correct and the outside (that you fit the speaker to) would be approx 15.3 - 15.5 cm.

Believe that a few have fitted 6.5 inch speakers, but as far as I can see this would require modifications to the metal bracket that you fit the speaker to.

I replaced my old front speakers (6.5 inch that did not fit properly and sounded really bad) for a decent set of 5.25 inch speakers and it was a substantial improvement. You just have to drill new holes in the metal bracket to fit then.

I've got some new Blaupunkt 6x4s coming from ebay soon ( I hope!).

Does anyone know if it matters which of the two wires goes to which terminal on the speakers ..... do they have a positive and negative?

doesnt matter about positive and negative so long as you get them both the same way around on both speakers.

If you have them connected up differently you get some very strange effect which makes them sound poo, cant explain it really just no bass and very tinny sounding.

Somebody explained it to me once and it went right over my head......

If you connect one in opposite polarity what happens is one is pushing the air while the other is pulling so you get cancellation and it is most obvious in low bass frequences. Hence tinny effect. Also if you dont seal the edge of the speaker to the hole its in the pushed sound wave from the front leaks round to the pulled wave at the back and similar cancellation occurs. So its really important to seal those edges with rubber gasket or similar.

The 6X4s I took out were already open at the sides which helped crap the sound. Whoever fitted them had no clue

Hi,

The backs are 6x4 but i think the fronts are 16cm which is between 6" and 6.5". The 16cm is rare but pioneer do them although they are not listed in their uk brochure. You can pick them up on the net or ebay.
