I remember people like Henri and Warren mentioning some sort of brake disc coating (cryo ?) a while back. As I have a set of brand new Brembo's sitting in my garage ready to fit I wondered whether anyone knows what the benefits of having this done are and where I might get it done.

Hi Andy...

"Cryogenic treatment" is not a coating, it's a process. People like Porterfield can do this for an extra charge, it makes the discs last longer if you need them for rally type activities, after speaking with porterfield I didn't think it was worth it for the cost. It's a process where the discs are heated and cooled to ultra low/high temps several times.

The stock porterfield discs are actully bought in from other manufacturers and then heat treated to help stop warping and also means no running in period (Not as extream as the cryo treatment). Then also cross drill or whatever you want.

Ahh, I had assumed it was something like annodising, to prevent the non-contact areas from rusting (and looking a trendy gold colour).
