Thor have said I can have an hour on the dyno at Billing to set my car up :D

Hopefully I'll be able to get the fuel controller fitted in time so they can tweak it just right.

What sort of power do you guys think I can expect with this lot and how much boost?

Is it head gaskets that would usually pop first from too much boost? (providing the fueling is correct)

With these T28's running at about 2psi it feels about the same as a stock Z to me.

8psi feels like my Z did with stock turbos on about 16psi.

18psi would be some scary shit! :o

If the engine is safe on say 16psi with stock turbo's does this mean 16psi with bigger ones is fine too even though there's more air being put through?

Is the pressure inside the engine not really the issue, just the fueling?

51x is running 20psi+

i would have thought stock head gaskets would be fine @ 18psi. only one way to find out ;)

but in short, yes 16psi on uprated turbos is better than 16psi on stock ones

I would hope to see you push between 450 - 500RWHP with that set up.

Make sure you tell peter that you are part of the 300zx.co.uk club as they are giving out a trohpy and prize to the higest BHP 300zx from our club.

It's the injectors that cause the problems with stock tub's but you have 555's so you should be ok. Stock tubs run out of puff at 16 - 17 psi anyway, but it's the fuel that leans out causing det.

i think si's head is mig wired with a group n gasket (not sure what one of those is but sounds impressive ;) )

I've had the car up to 11psi and it is VERY quick already but I did get a bit of det on a hot afternoon heading up the A1.

If I can get 450 - 500bhp I'll be so happy after all the problems I've had

How much difference does the timing on the chip make?

I'm presuming adjusting the base timing will be able to compensate if the chip is not "spot on"?

Is there anything else I might need to make the best of these mods?

theres a lot of variables on your setup, & i would imagine if your getting det its prob from lean fueling.

obviously the timing needs to be checked too. adjusting the base timing will effect the timing throughout the maps on the chips also.

what chip, sorry - "teapot" ;) you using??

I'm using an AshSpec chip at the moment but I've got JWT and JD ones that I can swap in about 30 secs now I have an external socket on my ECU ;)

The Ash and JD seem to be overfueling a lot though which I thought was odd to get detonation the other day. The JWT is for a single POP so I only tried it as a test when I was having problems getting it running.

I suppose they might be overfueling at low revs and getting too lean higher up...

Chris,

The timing has a much bigger effect on det than fuelling, particularly on bigger tubs.

The reason for this is that most maps aren't expanded, so you run off the map at a TP value roughly equal to 13psi on stock tubs. This in turn means that the mapping after that point is constant, varying only with revs. It also means that

below that value you have to sacrafice some performance to avoid det at higher load values.

I'm doing some expanded maps at the mo, but still a little time needed.

PM me your email addy and I'll drop you the chip that Vinz has - same tubs so should be pretty good timing wise. Looking at his dyno charts it's still a bit rich but can lean it off a little if you'd like. Call me and we can discuss if you want.

Cheers

Cheers John,

As Mr Mac says, I think Vinz has hybrids but mine are full T28's.

Not sure how much difference it will make to the chip though.
