Hi...

I have a UK MAN zed, only mods are bodywork and a blitz breather.

I am not into doing stuff myself, especially upgrades to power!! but want to know the most reliable and SAFE way to go to around 400bhp

I'm guessing new injectors, bigger turbos, new chip, some work on the head to make it tougher etc...

But you guys probably know better than me

I'm mostly after a ballpark cost and also someone reliable who can do it down south..???

Over to you...

£3000 ballpark for a set of T28 hybrids fitted with nismo 555 injectors and ecu chipped to run at 14psi should give you aprox 400bhp at the crank

Try SE NIsstek

alex

Thanx mate

Where could I find SE NIsstek's contact details... have they got a website etc?

400bhp @ the crank is possible on stock turbo's & injectors.

induction, exhaust, chip, boost upgrade (either boost jets or a boost controller) to ~1bar. you will also need an uprated clutch. a ligtweight flywheel & underdrive pulley will also help!

id try that 1st, if your still not happy with the power then uprated tubs & injectors it will have to be ;)

Spot on there is no need to spend silly money to get the power you are after

i disagree -

in my opinion you might just be able to get 400hp on stock injectors and turbos if you have sufficient other mods but they would be working right on the limit. you will be putting a hell of strain on possibly an old turbo and the set up would be prone to detonation. Sooner rather than later something is going to give.

I still think a comfortable 400hp would be a turbo and injector upgrade.

just my 2p :D

Nah, remember this is CRANK bhp we're talkin about ;) Stock setup will be fine, maybe a set of uprated ICs just to take the extra heat out of the charge with the turbos running out of their efficiencey range... Intake, exhaust, chip and ~1bar will do it nicely :)

so what would be an equivalent figure at the hubs 360 ish??

how many THOR dynos are running at 360 hp on stock turbos and stock injectors and how many suffered from massive det on the rolling road day?

340ish at the wheels approx , the det on most cars was due to the chips they were running , the prob as I see it is most people do not start with a stable base when upgrading so any exsiting faults just get worst quicker

And don't forget ageing FPRs/Dampers/fuel pumps/old plugs/clogged breather systems..... The list goes on! The FIRST modification you should always make to your car before tuning is to get everything running within spec in the first place - there's a LOT more to this than first meets the eye.

I feel another FAQ coming on :D Can someone sell me some spare time please? lol

no probs send me a PO bud

I got a FAQ on spare time.

Chunk has a Phd in it. :)

I was planning on the cheaper route and a boost controller so I can have it on "sensible boost" most of the time and crank it up on "special occasions"

I've been assuming this should reduce the strain and hence the chance of a failure of the stock turbos, am I right or talking out of my tail pipe?

I think everyone has lost the plot - or the thread - as it is...

I'm after a RELIABLE 400bhp or about 100bhp more than stock (is the stock 300bhp measured at the crank or the wheels?) if its possible to have such a thing as SAFE and RELIABLE f*ck off amount of power through the rear wheels..!!

I don't want to use the original injector/turbos if it will last for just 5,000 miles then blow....

I'm looking for something longer lasting - if that exists

... and it is a good point about variable boost - this surely will make things last longer?

I think the question is .... how much do you want to spend ?

not sure at the mo' just feeling my way into the big bhp minefield...

but £3K would be OK if it really was the best thing to do...

No 1 priority get your car running right.

Next air filter

Then exhaust

Then a new JD chip and boost controlller

Then you will need a new uprated clutch.

If you wanna protect your engine, then get bigger intercoolers, bigger rad and bigger oil cooler.

If you wanna protect the car and you, get R33 discs and brakes, Stilen Anti roll bars and racelogic traction control.

If you wanna protect the medium which is giving you all this advice then join the club?

Can you get to billing this weekend - Pete from SE will be there with a stand, he is also giving lectures on turbos and tuning.

Tell him staight what your after and your budget and he'll tell you how to get there. If you search about SE on the forum you'll find that some people love SE and some hate them but no one will deny that no one knows more about the Zed that Peter.

Just for the record i love them - i wouldnt take my car anywhere else.

p.s. if you come to billing you can join the club on the day :hyper: :D
