Just installed my new blitz air filter today and when I came to do it I noticed that the upgraded oil cooler that has been installed on my car is HUGE, looking at the pics on the z centre site it seems about twice the size of the kit they have available.

Its come right up to the top of the gap left my removing the standard airbox and is only about 10mm from the end of the cone, its also fitted right at the front, next to the bumper rather than sitting back like the pics on the z centre site.

I was slightly worried that the cone would end up sucking up hot air from the radiator, is this something to worry about? I guess my options are leave it as it is or replace it with a new oil cooler...

Have you got any pics mate ?.

I can't imagine the hot air will be an issue.

When driving the hot air will be moved back rather than up to the induction.

Hi,

I've attached a photo of the big ol' oil cooler, you can also see the ropey bits of scrap metal somebody secured it in there with!!

Whats the verdict?

That looks more like an air con condenser.

Can't imagine an oil cooler having a multi-pass layout like that one has judging by the U tubes on the end - the pressure drop would be too big.

Looks like I'll have to trace all the pipes and find out where they go to!!! Oil system or air con!!!

It's certainly not standard whatever it is!!!

Cheers

I have seen an oil cooler like that, I think it was stillen off the top of my head.

You can actually see your oil cooler anyway on the right hand side, maybe a transmision or powersteering cooler as i cant see the little powersteering cooler thingy

Kirbz

That look suspiciously like the stillen one on their site. not seen one in the flesh so no idea of the size.

I'm pretty certain the aftermarket cooler isnt the stillen one, and it's defo not part of the aircon as with the aircon turned off its seriously hot even after a short drive. making me think its oil,

I couldnt work out where the pipes went which was a bummer, I'm thinking I may just pull off one of the hoses and see what's in there!! ;-)

The guy who sold me the car was pretty convinced it was an oil cooler although it wasnt him that had it fitted.

Fingers crossed It's going to a specialist soon for remapping etc. so I'll have it checked out then.

But your original oil cooler is still there under it and connected up???

It sure is, but thats normal if you fit an aftermarket cooler isnt it, the orginal one becomes the auto transmission cooler and the new one is now the engine oil cooler. (making the old one that is built into the radiator core (I think) redundant) (according to the Z centre website anyway)

It's going to the nelson mandella tomorrow for a cambelt change and a full service, I may ask the grease monkey there to have a gander but I think he will just get confused...
