After getting the engine running at the weekend and not being able to get the clutch working I thought I was doomed not to get to Billing but there's hope again :hyper:

Bled the clutch again for about the 8th time and loads of air came out.

I think leaving it to stand for a few days has made air rise up from somewhere and been forced out this time.

What a PITA

Boy does it feel good to drive it again :D

Still got to refit the interior, bumper, fix smoke probs, then get it MOT'd, taxed etc etc in a week

Excellent News Chris. I'm really chuffed for you mate. Will see you at Billing :D

Nice one Chris, I shouldnt be too long behind now, plans are a foot, unfortunately not for Billing tho :(

Hope it all works out for ya bud

Martin

About bloody time mate. After what you told me last year over the BBQ, I'm amazed but nevertheless, well done!!!

Hopefully I'll see the beast on the Sunday at Billing. :D

I spent all last night getting the front bumper fitted and tightened all the pipes again.

Took it out for a longer drive to see if it survived!

I'm amazed how much power it has at only 5psi with the T28's - it definately feels much faster than stock and maybe as quick as my old engine was on 14psi!

The manual box is so solid with the short shifter and Z Centre knob - absolutely no play at all in the stick :D

I've got the clutch booster disconnected as I'm waiting for a one-way valve for it.

Have any of you tried driving with an unassisted RPS Max clutch? :mac1:

I can only just press the pedal to the floor and have to grip the wheel to get some pressure on it

With the short shifter it makes for very "positive" gearchanges!

There's no way you could drive it in town like this without launching into the car in front.

I couldn't tell if the smoke was still there on a dark rainy night with tinted windows LOL

The only problem is it keeps stalling when I come from high speed to a stop. It might just be me not getting the clutch down quick enough because it's so heavy but hopefully that will be sorted tonight.

I crapped myself when I pulled into a petrol station and it cut out in the entrance with no lights at all. Looked under the bonnet and found some muppet had forgotten to tighten the battery terminal :o LOL

Sounds like you're getting there mate.

Can you smell anything from inside the car when it smokes ?

What dump valves have you got n there ?. Are they maybe loosing pressure too quickly and making the car stool when at low revs ?.

Well I didn't see or smell any stools mate! :D

It smells fine in the car, it's all coming out of the back.

The dump valves are TurboXS RFL's and I put an extra spacer washer in when I assembled them as a few people seem to be having the problems with BOV's making it cut out when stopping.

I'll try putting another one in and see if it helps.

It might just be me getting used to a very heavy clutch and lightened flywheel.

Ok let us know if we can put this one down to the "auto drivers trying to drive a manual" error .

It took me ages to work out what that extra pedal did.

I've found another 4 gears now :D

Just thinking about your smoking, You haven't got too much oil in there or something stupid have you ?

  • Author

Oil is just right.

Took it out again last night for 3 hours and did 120 miles - forgot how thirsty these things are!

PaulG sent me a one way valve for the clutch booster that I was missing so that's fine now - I can drive it like a normal manual instead of the clutch just being on or off.

If I just leave it running on the drive to warm up, the smoke gets worse and worse, but when it's hot after driving the smoke seems to have gone so should get through the MOT

Turned the boost up to 11psi and oh my god!

I know why I've spent all this money and put all my spare time into this thing!

It's seriously quick and sounds absolutely mental.

About the only decent car I came across was a Focus RS who tried to race but I left it standing. From coming off a roundabout on an A road it turned into a dot in the mirror in about 5 seconds LOL

I just can't imagine what those 18G's of Macca's are going to be like at 20+psi!

You better be careful mate

Hhhmmmm smoking when ticking over and not when driven in the countryside..... sounds fgamiliar...... oh yes. Thats what mione does all the time.
