Right. To clear this whole Cat Replacment thing

Here is a link I have found that says if your car is registered before Jan 1992 you can LEGALY remove your cats providing it still passes the emissions test.

I have no idea what gain you have? I think your lag is reduced slightly. You gain some horses, dont know how many. I have heared that you do pass the emissions test, but id you dont I read on Twinturbo.net that you unplug something why it does the test and it passes. Some sensor or something

think i read that as well - cheers, might look into doing it...

I remember talking to Luke at the Zcentre about Cat replacement pipes. He advises that your turbos must be in good nick before you fit them. Something to do with the reduction in the back pressure, i.e. exhaust gases flow much more quickly from the turbo. Removing the cats and replacing them with straight pipes also increases exhaust noise. He does normal straight pipes and ones with mini silencers in.

I heard that if your turbos are in good enough condition it will do them no harm. But if your seal are starting to wear, it will speed up the process

Got my cat replacement pipes from Luke at the Zed centre Stu. They are really good quality and do make a difference allowing the turbos to breathe easier. However with the reduction in back pressure it does put more strain on the turbo oil seals ( as I found out!). Two new oil seals and recond turbos later the car runs great. I did also need to fit a breather kit that Johnny at GPS supplied for me. It comes from turbo techincs and I think it reduces the amount of pressure on the oil seals. Make contact with Johnny boy and he will give you the info on this. hope this helps M8

BTW I also had the AIV pipes off my standard exhausts welded onto the new ones. This made it run better as it did not seem to run very well without them!!!

on this side of the pond, a shop can get in trouble for replacing a properly functioning cat so to bypass it, people take a crowbar and jam a hole in the cat smile.gif
