Can you buy the reflective mirror that are in your head lights?

I have taken my headlights apart to give them a good clean, but the reflective mirror for the dip light is terrible. Its been burned over the years and it not reflective at all. As soon as you touch it it flakes of

Can you buy just the refelective part?

NO! Use bacofoil thats about all you can do unless you find a good second hand one.

You may be able to get them re-chromed (plastic chromed that is)

Yeah looking into that.

Took the lights totally apart. The lens infront of the dip light was dirty. When looking through it all you could see is a fuzz. After cleaning it with polish it miles better and would probably make a big difference. However the mirror for the dip is cooked and hardly reflective anymore. Years of heat as cooked it so there is a huge heat mark over it, like when you put heat to polished metal, and the mirror is flaking off in places too.

That wont help the lights at all.

I have emailed a few places see if they can do it, including a chromers in Manchester, which will be handy as it will save on postage.

Stuart

I stripped my lights down the other day to give them a bloody good clean. BUT when I undid the housing around the adjusters I found that every single one of the little nylon gears had broken up, on every single adjuster! :( Also, all the threaded screws that they actuate have seized in their bearings (which I guess is why all the gears broke up)

I very much doubt that I can buy just these little odds and sods for the lights, so you may be in luck. I'll find out for sure next week, and if I can't get the bits then you are welcome to have the reflectors from mine! :)

SRRAE - Give me a PM or a post next week (Monday) to remind me and I'll let you know!

I had a problem with the adjusters too. Well just 1 of them. The screw on the adjuster has grooves on it to grip the nylon cog, but one has stripped so the screw was turning but it wasnt turning the cog. After unscrewing the lamp adjuster all the way out, I took the little unit off and put it on where the other was causing trouble.

I have tried to put lock tight on the one which was slipping, see if that helps out.

Nah mate, every single adjuster on BOTH Low beam/ High beam bulbs on BOTH headlights are foooooooooooooked. All fell into a million bits when I took the housings off, and even though I've lubed up the threaded screws they're still seized. Both headlights are write offs :(

But as I said, you are welcome to have my reflectors (which are still in good nick) if you want them

I have some brand new spare adjusters, which ones do you need ?

Excellent!! Er.... I need ALL of them. Up/Down Left/Right for high beam AND low beam on BOTH headlights. You should have heard the swearing in my house when I found that out

Andy, if you can sort me out then FANTASTIC! thankyou. If not then it looks like Stuart will have his reflectors after all.

Off home now, and I don't usually come here on weekends, but I'll try this weekend to keep up with any replies.

Have a good weekend!!
