Rear speaker position r pants

Anybody managed to get a decent base response from the rear, as I have fitted 6x9 kenwoods and(tried jbl bit better but not much) the base is crap , then got told try making a enclosed speaker housing , which made it worse.( even with a 300watt amp) So I cut some 1" holes in it , a bit better. by the way the pods I made are in the same position as the original speakers, the reason being as you know there is a lack of boot space and I don't want to waste any! anybody done something on the similar line with success???

Hiya Syko...

First things first..(putting English Teachers hat on)....I think the word you're after is 'bass' not 'base'. Sorry (Hat off) smile.gif

Anyway....I had much the same problem, and ended up building a custom enclosure with a JBL 10" woofer. Its sounds *really* good if I may say so myself, and I can still put the roof in the boot when the sun comes out (for all two weeks of it!) biggrin.gif

To be honest, without adding a bass enclosure, the best bass you'll get is from the front speakers! So work on those if you cant bear to lose any more boot space.

I would like to keep some boot space too.

I've got some 6x9s sat at home at the moment and am thinking hard on the best way to put 'em in the car.. depending on the speaker I doubt there will be enough air in the front doors to really let a set of 6x9s perform plus you'd need to modify to put them there, and further modify to get any decent performance.

A thought is an enclosure behind the rear seats which is ported approx. 2" from the carpet and approx. 2" up from that, ports to be long enough for the lids to slot into. This should leave some room for a sub either side of the boot nearest the back of the car. Althernative, start thinking about angling an enclosure in the boot so the sound is reflected off the roof and down to the front seats.... only ideas, and always, am in need of more before I do anything..... anyone make decent modified replacement door cards, anyone know how to work out how much airspace a given diameter/power of sub is going to need ?

Hiya

I dont think you gat any decent sound in the rear unless you get a sub in the back. I've just had a custom boot box with amp and sub fitted, it's the dogs nads, not to load like the nova boys, but it really fills in hte base.
