Ok, seing as my manual Z is off the road for a while, I have borrowed an Alfa 166 3.0 V6 auto thingy....

I am new to driving auto cars, and was under the impression the gearbox knew exactly what you wanted to do all the time.........

So @ like 70-80-90 mph on the m-way, in auto mode, this thing REFUSES to kick down into 3rd, the only way to do it is to switch to sport and do it yourself. It's a bit annoying, as I would have thought it would have figured out itself to drop a cog.....

Is this the same on a Z??? Does the auto Z change gear by itself at these speeds?

TBH, up to 50mph the thing will go through the gears itself in auto mode no trouble, but after 60 or so, it just stays in 4th.

No wars here.....Just information please :P ;)

Regards,

Robert.

Yup, it certainly does! :) (at least it drops out of overdrive and lock-up or whatever)

Sure does kick down, you can also control the kick down too so it doesnt floor right up to max revs........

Well controllable....:)

An auto will kick down to 2nd or if the speed is too high then the next gear up and so on so that it will not blow the engine.

Agree with that, my Zed will kick-down with very little throttle movement leaving (virtually) all other cars a mere speck in the rear view mirror. It will happily kicks down 2 gears at speeds below 60-70 ish

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
