Hello chaps,

Have finally managed to get a driver downloaded from driverguide.com for the Rockwell internal modem on my PC which is now running XP-Pro.

All is working fine, can now connect to the ISP but instead of the modem speaker knocking off once connected it's staying on...have disabled the speaker in modem properties on the Internet Connection and also knocked the modem speaker volume down via control panel but it's still staying on while I'm surfing...which to be honest is becoming fookin' annoying! :(

Help! TIA

sounds like a bad driver maybe, whats the modem I'll see if i can find you a better driver. May cure. If not give me a call and I'll see if I can talk you through some settings. 07739 177147

you might need to force it to do it via a hayes command

first site I found

http://readthetruth.com/modems.htm

lists the command as

M1 Speaker on until carrier detected

M3 Except when dialing, speaker on until carrier detected

You will need to get in to terminal mode connected to the modem and issue

atm1 to the modem.

Not sure if that makes sense..

JB

Load up your sound volume program and have a play with those settings

Cheers JB, not made much progress with it to be honest, can't be arsed at the moment! But it is getting on me pip! LOL :)

It's a Rockwell modem, internal jobby. I must confess that the driver has done its job as before the XP Pro w@nk OS didn't provide a driver for it so that is a bonus the fact that I've got it running but the white noise of ones and zero's is baking me noodle...make it stop please! Argggghhhhh! LOL :)

a standard 56k modem driver should work so long as it isnt one of those awful soft-modems. I'd be tempted to rip the speaker off the thing then the problem is solved without any complicated software tweaks ;)

LOL :)

Surely there is another more ammicable way round it bud! LOL :)

seriously try scraping the driver and going for a standard 56k modem one. I used to have an old-skool ISA bus rockwell and it worked fine on the standard driver.

allthough buzzer.jpg + hammer.jpg would be tempting to me :p

OK matey, will try that, have the other driver in reserve should it all go pear shaped

yeah one of xp's good features is the driver rollback, if it goes wrong press the rollback button and your back to how it was before :)

Hello peeps,

Right driver I got was off driverguide.com I think and was the HFSXP.zip file driver.

My modem is as follows:

RS56-PCI R6787-12

Rockwell 97 9844 B65502.5

Oh and stamped proudly on the main chip "Mexico" LMFAO :)

Try this one

Its a 95/98 driver but XP is not too fussy about things like that.

http://www.modem-drivers.com/drivers/19/19068.htm

And if you look here http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=76016 other people are having the same problem with that driver you used.

LOL :)
