I have an '89.

I have had my heads replaced as the values needed reseating.

I don;t think it's too much of a common porblem though.

Thanks mate, is it an expensive job? Silly question i guess as i dont think ive found anything to do with the motor that isnt!

I had an F-reg and it died with a cracked bore - having already replaced the head gasket a couple of thou previously.

I don't say the two are related, but you never know.

I have a 89/90

no trouble in the 3 years ive had it in the head department

I too have an 89 Zed, no problems thus far and no history of rebuild.

I think the problem was only in a percentage of cars made, also I belive its been said that if you have a problem car that it should shown itself in the last 15years already.

I think a head rebuild comes in at about £1500-£2000

The problem was that the machined face for the crank angle sensor wasn't square with the end of the cam. This caused the two shafts to run slightly out and gradually wear away the drive splines. As has already been said, this was only on the very first few production models and would have more than likely shown itself by now...
