Ever since ive had my car the heater force out of the various vents on the car has never blown with any force even though the heater fan is definately blowing at full speed.

My air-con has been disconected in the past by a previous owner and there appears to be some ham-fisted attempt at getting the black 'air box ?' out from behind the glove box (the one next to the blower moter & intake), with some damage sustained resulting in some air leaks around the joints. :mac1:

I have no errors on the aircon/heater diag and the fan operates correctly on the other tests in the diag modes, also the 'flap/door' behind the middle vent can be seen moving and directing air to the 'Def' , 'Vent' and 'foot' positions.

I only get a faint breeze coming through the vents in all positions, just enough to feel with your face about a foot from the middle/face level vent.

At first i thought that they may all be like this until i asked a few people and they said there was a fair force coming out of thier vents.

Anybody had similar probs ?

Surely some air leaks around the 'boxes' would'nt cause such a loss of force ?

Come on guys.

I dont have a def, vent, foot position, just the econ and recirc buttons and the off switch mine does come out with a conciderably amount of force when in air con mode but when in eco mode it's no where near as powerful, it takes ages to get to the temp you set too, i.e. it takes ages to get cold and so on, the two things might be conected???

Can you put your hand and feel any air comming out by your passanger? cant seee it making that much difference, but then if they have tried to rip it out then no telling what damage has been done!!

I get air coming out of all vents correctly on the various temp settings , theres just no force there.

Is it cos the air con has been dis-con that it has no force ?

Anyone with dis-con air con have no heater force ?

Hi Martin.

Although I have no definitive answer to your question I'd like to add a few "thoughts". I don't think that disconnecting the airconditioning has any effect on the air's exit velocity. The Z's climate control system is extremely complex (and in my opinion over engineered) which means there are numerous places where things can go wrong. Warm and cold air is mixed at different places in the system before exiting through the various vents with seamingly no logic to where you actually want it to come out of. Series 2 cars onward came with buttons allowing you to direct the airflow. It is possible that there is an obstruction somewhere in the system. It is also possible that there is an electrical problem which holds the internal doors open in the wrong position.

I think your best bet is to either take the car to a specialist or meet up with another Z owner and compare identical climate control settings. Good luck and I'm sorry for not having any more definitive information.

Regards,

i have the series 1 and only really get full fan speed when set to defrost and the highest temp, the fans wont blow any more than they need to due to it being controlled by a computer, there is a low and high speed fan on the series one not sure about the s2 tho

Thanks all for your thoughts.

I was thinking that if one of my 'flap/doors' was stuck or obstructed in some way it should show as an error in the diag proceedure ?

The eco-mode button switches off the compressor for the air-con to save fuel, so the air will never get any cooler than it is outside. When you press it at idle you'll notice the engine speed drop because it no longer has to turn the compressor.

Or when it's really hot! It's 37 C here today and when you press the auto button the fans come on full. The air con is very powerful when it's working propely; mine can bring the temperatures down to about 24 C in about 2 minutes.

This car was designed for Japanese summers remember!

In the series one system the computer also has four fan speeds available to choose between. It's just that the only manual options are high (full speed) and low (slowest speed).

If you want a write up on how to 'upgrade' the series one controller to a series two then see the link below:

The page is really in Japanese but it's been put through an automatic translation site, so applogies about the dodgy English. It should be clear enough though.
